Show Fiesta Days 2009 12 Community Theater pre Christene Choate STAFF WRITER The Spanish Fork Community Theatre is proud to present "Singin' in the Rain," directed by Adam Cannon, July 16-18,23 and 25 at 7:30 p.m., with a special matinee performance at 4 p.m. on Friday, July 24 at Spanish Fork High School. The story of "Singin' in the Rain" starts in the era of silent films. The two main characters, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont, are stars of the silent screen. When 'The Jazz Singer" is released, everyone is excited about "talking pictures." Lockwood and Lamont are shooting a film they want to convert into a "talkie," but there's one problem, Lamont's voice. The studio must find a way to bring its silent stars into this exciting new realm. Many people not familiar with the storyline, will find that "Singin' in the Rain" has many familiar songs such as "Singin' in the Rain," "Good Morning," and "Make 'em Laugh." "Singin' in the Rain" stars Michael Carrasco as Don Lockwood, Tia Trimble as Kathy Selden, Leisl Cope as Lina Lamont and Kai Hansen as Cosmo Brown. Hours were spent getting the ready. The audition process alone takes four days, and the rehearsals are four nights a week from May 1—July 16. This show is unique because every member of the cast, down to the five-year-old extras, will learn the tap numbers and tap in at least one number. "I have watched them rehearse and it is going to blow people away," said Juli Wilkins, SFCT president. "I was amazed when I got to a rehearsal and watched them, the cast has picked it up so quickly." Preparation has also gone into locating costumes and props. Shows can cost around $20,000 to put on. "Singin* in the Rain" is a musical with 15 separate musical numbers. "Our musical talent is excellent," said Wilkins. "I am always impressed with the talent we have audition for us." "["Singin* in the Rain"] is very funny and family friendly," said Wilkins. Tickets cost $8 for adults, $6 for children 11 and under and seniors. Family passes are $35 for up to six members of immediate family. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at Boothe Brothers Music in advance. Doors will open a half hour before showtime. i_.
