After Russell passed away in 1994, the high school coaches and teams renamed the ballpark the Russell Swenson Memorial Park in his honor. Swenson would like to thank all the volunteers that help make the recreation program what it is. "Over the years thousands and thousands of dollars have been donated. When we built the sports park it was mainly done with volunteers. For a number of years, we had to curtail participation in programs until that facility was built. We wouldn't have that sports complex today without the volunteers. Spanish Fork has always been a great city for volunteering." year researching the names that were given to the DUP. Currently the DUP has a working list of 170 names. "During that time we didn't have city records, and some bodies were moved to other cemeteries. That research will go on and on," Montague said. DUP member Marlene Sanford has spent the last year researching all the cemeteries in Utah to document any graves that had been moved. Eagle Scout Brock Larson headed a group of Boy Scouts that reset headstones exactly to grid in the cemetery. "In those days things weren't exactly straight. It was extremely difficult to even bury people here. It was so harsh in the winter that the volunteer sexton would ask the families for a stick of wood to warm the ground so they could bury the person," Montague said. The wall will be similar to the one at Spanish Fork City Cemetery, with the ability to add and remove names as needed. The DUP would like to see story boards with histories added to the park as well. "This is not just a DUP project, but a community project, of which we are privileged to be a part. The city staff that we have worked with have treated the entire project with such a reverence, and have bent over backwards to help and assist. We are grateful to all who have donated their time and hardearned money to help restore this sacred ground," said Montague. The DUP would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project, from anonymous donors to local business.
