Principal Dave McKee remarked that his time as principal began when this class began their first year at Spanish Fork High School. He encouraged the graduates in their future endeavors. "I know you can do well," he said. "As you move forward you will accomplish many great things." Debbie Swenson of the Nebo School Board, said she felt "a great deal of hope" for the graduates and encouraged them to remember the humanity in others. "Every one of you graduates can change the world in some way for someone," Swenson said. Main f Spanish fork 798-3500 Five selected for Boys State The annual American Legion Boy's State will be held on the Weber State University campus June 9-13 with five young men from this year's junior class representing Spanish Fork and Salem Cities. The purpose of Boy's State is to give outstanding young men from around the State an opportunity to actively participate in the political process of the American form of government, to teach the rights of American citizenship and especially the responsibilities that go with citizenship. At Boy's State, the boys' organize their own city, county and state governments. They elect their own officials in accordance with regular election procedures and learn the duties and responsibilities of the various elected offices. The following young men have been selected to represent American Legion Post 68 and Spanish Fork and Salem cities • at this year's program. Dominic Bills is a junior at Spanish Fork High School and is the son of Dale and Rita Bills. He is a member of the US National Champion Ambassador's singing group and excels on the cello, for the high school orchestra. Dominic is also active in drama and is an officer in the National Honors Society. John Christiansen from Spanish Fork is the son of Richard and Gaye Christiansen and a student at Spanish Fork High School where he carries an impressive 3.996 GPA. John is a member of the National Honors Society and the championship SFHS Band. He has received the National Federation of Music Award for piano and has been the Student of the Month at the high school as well as earning his Eagle Scout award. Jace Brown carries a 4.0 GPA at Spanish Fork High School and is member of the National Honors Society. He has been elected to the office-of Vice President - Social at the school and is an officer in the Book Club as well as a member of the Debate Team. Thomas has also been selected as the Student of the Month and is Thomas Phillips a member of the Chamber Orchestra where he received a superior rating at the Region IV competition. In addition, He received the President's Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence and the Superior Ensemble Performance at the Utah Shakespearean Festival. Thomas is the son of Doug and Karen Brown. Ryan Hyatt is the son of Danielle Hyatt of Woodland Hills and a student at Spanish Fork High School. An excellent student, he maintains a 4.0 GPA. Thomas Phillips also attends SFHS and is involved in drama where he has served as stage manager for the production of South Pacific. An Eagle Scout recipient he has also been awarded the Ken Garff Keys to Success recognition. Thomas has also earned his On My Honor Award and is currently the leader of his Priest's Quorum group. The American Legion Post 68 would like to thank the following organizations here locally who have donated the funds necessary to allow this excellent young men the opportunity to participate in Utah Boy's State: Spanish Fork City, Salem City, Pacific-Horizon Credit Union, Zion's Bank, Bank of American Fork, Steve Wilson/State Farm Insurance, Spanish Fork Veterans Committee, Kiwanis Club, Spanish Fork Firefighters, Security Insurance, Nebo Finance, Walker Mortuary, Glen Bradford, Jay Measom, Mark Leifson and Thad Jensen.
