Show I N E W B8 • WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2008 S- Spanish Fork Covering what matters most Chess at Spanish Oaks CHESS IS KING: Congratulations to all those students who participated in our Chess Tournament at Spanish Oaks Elementary this year! We had great participation from our third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students. The students had the opportunity to sign up and learn more about the game of Chess. Students used their skills competing in matches with other students on their grade level. We had several winners from each grade level and all students had the fun of learning something new! Sixth grade winners are pictured, front row left to right third place Josee Anderson, first place Bryson VanTassell and third place Mitchell Martin and Kendall Barlow. On the back row are second place Jared Jackson, third place Tyler Satterfield, Casey Brown and Alex Mendoza. Not pictured is Alex Varela. FOURTH GRADE WINNERS: Pictured left to right on the front row are fourth grade winners. First place Ethan Burnham, second place Austin Rothaug and third place Jacob Olson. More that 100 students from the fourth, fifth arid sixth grades participated in a school wide science fair. There was a great variety of project topics. These topics included such ideas as finger printing, plant growth, using recycled materials to grow plants, comparing bacteria in various fast food restaurants; dogs looking like their owners and much more. Students worked very hard on their projects which was evident in their outstanding displays. Congratulations to all our students for their outstanding displays and presentations! Anna Tanner took first place and Alyssa Cable took 3rd place. The tKle of Anna's science project is "Which type of thermometer is most accurate?"
