Show SPANISH FORK WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2009 • B3 Covering what matters most SFHS Band and Orchestra succeed at State Kaydee O'Brien SFHS Several instrumental music students represented Spanish Fork High School at State Solo/ Ensemble on April 25,2009 at Lone Peak High School. The band soloists that performed at State were Katy Dallon, who received a superior rating for her flute solo; Nathan Hill, who received an excellent rating for his trombone solo; Nelson Orton, who received a rating ofgoodforhis euphonium solo; Max Livingston, who received a superior rating for his percussion solo; and Pete Bradford, who also received a superior for his clarinet solo. The flute quartet consisting of Katy Dallon, Sharisa Nay, Sarah Johnson and Katie Stanworth received an excellent for their performance. The chamber orchestra under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Larson competed in the State .Solo/Ensemble. They received a superior rating from all of the judges. Kayla Brimhall, with her cello solo, scored a superior rating. The violin quartet consisting of Kim Harding, Erika Pace, Kristie Stoneman and Abby LeMmon received an excellent rating. SF English Dept. receives book grant SFHS choirs Spanish Fork High School English Department received a $1,000.00 grant from the Nebo Education Foundation to go toward the purchasing of 180 copies of the novel To Kill A Mockingbird for sophomore English students. "With these copies, all sophomores will be able to take home the novel to read independently and stay up with the class reading. It is imperative for students to be able to do homework as this novel is long and collaborative discussions can take the bulk of class time to understand and maximize the learning from the book. We appreciate the support the Foundation has given us to achieve our goals as English teachers at .Spanish Fork High School." replied Mrs. Hillier. Foundation past president Natalie Clyde remarked, "It is a pleasure to receive the grant applications and see how remarkable and creative the Nebo District teachers are. The Nebo Education Foundation facilitates these grant monies to help teachers realize their ideas and the students' potential. As a foundation, we get to see a glimpse at how well our teachers are instructing our students. Our teachers are truly talented and utilize every peniiy. They do such a great job!"
