Show -NEWS- A6 • WEDNESDAY, JUNE 4, 2008 Spanish Fork Curbside recycling anticipated in SF Kiwanis Spanish Fork City residents may enjoy a curbside recycling program in the near future. A minimum of 2,000 households, however, are needed before the program can be implemented. The city council approved the recycling program on Tuesday, May 20, 2008. Based on citizen feedback since 2005, the council decided not to make the program mandatory. The overall savings of -implementing a mandatory versus a voluntary program are minimal. Residents who are interested can sign up by going to http://www.spanishfork. Courtesy photo OUTSTANDING: The Kiwanis Club presented Bethany Wride and Alec Johnson with their "Terrific Kids" award. Cemetery decoration clean-up Spanish Fork City Parks Department would like to thank all those who decorate the Cemetery with flowers for Memorial Day. It is always a beautiful sight. Because it is impossible to cut the grass with all the flowers in place, on Monday, June 9, 2008 the cemetery crews will dispose of all remaining flowers and memorabilia not removed from the grass. (Artificial flowers in monument vases are not removed by the city crews because they do not obstruct grass cutting.) Those individuals wishing to remove the flowers and memorabilia they placed must do so on or before Sunday, June 8, 2008. This would include all plants, cut flowers, potted flowers, artificial flowers and plants, baskets, containers, stands, and other memorabilia and that were placed by the citizens for Memorial Day that would obstruct the trimming and cutting of the grass. Some grave markers provide room on the concrete skirting around the headstones for placing these items that won't conflict with the string trimmers and mowers. We encourage patrons to use these areas only and keep all items well away from the grass. Thank you. Special Pricing Covering what matters most org/recycle/. Once 2,000 households sign up, the service will begin. After considering three different recycling companies, the city has chosen Allied Waste, its current garbage collection service provider. Allied Waste will deliver a separate recycling bin to interested households and pick up their recycling bin on a specific day every other week. By recycling, residents may be able to reduce their garbage output by 25 percent or more if they choose to pickup the recycling option. The monthly cost for this service is from $6-$7 and may vary due to gas prices. The city council is optimistic about this program. They feel a three to six month period is a good window of time to gauge actual public interest. In addition to-signing up for recycling at http://www. spanishfork.org/recycle/, residents can also call 798-5000 to have the service added. While some residents do not want a mandatory service., others feel that such a program is long over due. Additional questions about this recycling program can be directed to recycle@spanishfork.org.
