AT STATE LADY DONS SET NEW SF T E N N I S BEST Danielle Jones STAFF WRITER The Spanish Fork girls' tennis team finished fourth at the 5A tennis tournament at Discovery Park on Oct. 4 and Oct. 8,2007. Spanish Fork finished with a total of eight points to tie with Brighton and Weber. Alta won the team title with 17 and Lone Peak and Skyline came in second each with 12 points. "My girls played awesome! It was the highest any Spanish Fork tennis team has ever placed, boys or girls. However, we look to improve our ranking for next year," said Coach Scott Dunn. Kelley Argyle, the only senior, led the team with the highest finish taking second place in #2 singles. She defeated North ridge 6-1,6-2 and Riverton 6-4, 6-1 to make it to the semi-finals where she defeated Davis 6-2, 6-1. In the finals she lost 2-6, 2-6 to Alta's Ashley Tanner. "I played a lot better that 1 did at region. I came into state very focused to do well my senior year," said Kelley Argyle. Rachel Reid also did very well in #1 singles, making it to the semifinals by defeating Davis 6-1, 6-2 and Jordan 6-0, 6-1. She lost in the semi-finals to this year's state champion, Mary Anne MacFarlane of Weber. The first doubles team of Danielle Jones and Alexandra Argyle beat Weber 6-2, 6-1 and Bingham 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) to reach the semi-finals where they lost 2-6. 0-6 to the three time state champion Skyline team. Third singles Braquel Burnett and second doubles, Lea Greiling and Pam McConnell, reached state but were knocked out in the first round. Next year, all of the varsity team will return, except Kelley Argyle who will graduate and Lea Greiling who is only here this year as a foreign exchange student from Germany. They also will have Rebekah Reid, Rachel's twin sister back, who was out this season due to shoulder surgery.
