Show EDDIE BENSON 20 G Eddie Benson figures to play a major role in the Thunderbird fortunes this season. After the preseason evaluations, Eddie appears to have an excellent shot at starting guard position, a spot he held last season. He can play either point or off guard on offense where he uses excellent quickness and very good outside shooting to good advantage. Eddie is a tough competitor who is not one a Skyview High School in Smithfield. He was a high school team captain and an player. He also in baseball at lettered is interested in He Skyview. all sports and loves n motorcycles. to shy away from physical contact. His quickness is a valuble asset defensively, where he will often be glued to an opponents top ball handler. Last year Eddie averaged 11.0 points per game, second best on the team, and led the squad in assists with an average of 3.6 per contest. He came to SUSC from Lamar University, where he did not play basketball. Prior to transferring to Lamar, he started for two years at Dixie College. Eddie is a graduate of JAMES CLARK James comes to SCISC with the reputation of being a very good athlete with the potential to do well with the Thunderbirds. He is a walk- - on who quickly caught the eye of Bob Schermerhorn. Because of the status of his transfer from Weber State College, he will not be able to play until January 16. While playing at Utah 30 F Technical College-Provo- , James was the teams top rebounder. His sophomore season, he was selected as team captain. His jumping ability and quickness will allow him to surprise opponents. Schermerhorn says he has good athletic skills, but needs some work on basketball fundamentals before he reaches his full potential. He is expected to contribute off the bench this season. James attended Wilby High School in Waterbury, Conn., but he did not letter in basketball. He did letter in cross country. As a youngster, he entertained as a singer up and down the East coast, winning numerous honors. He still has a strong interest in music. He also likes to play tennis. James is the son of Ella may Clark of Waterbury, Conn. He is majoring in data processing and minoring in business administration at SUSC. He is the son of Dale and Janice Benson, Newton. At SUSC he is majoring in physical education and minoring in health. |
