McGrath, the man who murdered mur-dered his wife at Eureka, and who was recently acquitted of the charge on the ground of insanity, has now been declared sane by a board of medical examiners. Whether this was a case of miscarriage of justice or not, -it is safe to predict that the insanity dodge will receive a very black eye the next time it is tried. Duke a ad Robertson, the Wells-Fargo Wells-Fargo bank defaulters, pleaded guilty in Judge Hall's court at Salt Lake City on Saturday, and each received a sentence of four years in the penitentiary, which sentence, by good behavior, may be reduced to two years and ten months. It is a light sentence, but the public will not complain if the pardon board does not deem it proper to grant them a pardon before their time is up. The amount of their shortage is 00,000, so they each make about 10,000 a year serving their sentences. candidates from that city who are contending for the nomination of State Senator. No wonder that one of the factions feels the need of a newspaper to sing its praises. It will be a merry fight and some one is likely to have his feelings hurt. Orson Dorius of Ephraim, who has been confined in the county jail since June 1st, awaiting trial on a charge of adultery committed with Hetty Beck at Moroni, was arraigned in the district court Monday Mon-day morning and pleaded guilty. The woman in the case is out of the country. She bears rather an unsavory reputation. In passing sentence the court was of the opinion that the woman is equally guilty witli the man, and this fact, together with the fact that Dorius had already served nearly two months in the county jail, prompted prompt-ed the court to deal leniently with the defendant, and he was sentenced sen-tenced to a term of thirty days in the State prison. An effort will be made to apprehend the woman and bring her to justice. ing auoui,. The reorganization of the Oen-fral Oen-fral Utah Summer school has been effected as follows: President, Ezra' Christiansen; first vice-president, County Superintendent A. L. Larson; Lar-son; second vice-president, Superintendent Super-intendent Magleby of Sevier county : The Daly-West mine explosion at Park City last week, in which thirty-four miners lost their lives, was an awful calamity. The cause of the explosion resulted from the common practice of keeping large quantities of powder stored in the mine. This is dangerous in itself, but is doubly so when men who, by years of routine work in the mines become bold and fearless in the manner of handling explosives, and sometimes enter the powder magazine maga-zine with an unprotected lamp, as seems to have been the case in this instance. There are many dangers connected with mine work that can hardly be avoided and which makes mining hazardous, but too much caution cannot be taken to avoid accidents which frequently occur, and which are wholly within the power of the mine managers and the men to avoid.
