Show colorado woman comans as club entertainment by mary V baumley the acklen womans comans club of pleasant view colo was hostess to four other womans comans clubs on saturday november representing the sylvan cahone cabone dove creek and northdale ucolo bucolo sections A bountiful luncheon was served at the noon hour at the P pliant 31 ir g ant view school house ver this delightful time of fellowship the stage was made ready for as fine and realistic a pageant representing the colorful history of southwest colorado as was ever put on in a modern up to date theater and the keen enjoyment of the spectators as they saw the skillful amateur acting brought the realization that one does not have to go to hollywood or a moving picture show to feel the thrill of dramatic art fine stage settings and rich curtains please the artistic taste but board planks and jhc sheets ets for curtains may also d splay duplay an innate sense of I 1 dramatic art as was manifest on this occasion the hostess club had bad assigned to each of the five closi cl c its own specific part in the th e 1 ant tnt to be arranged on its own initiative ini lat dative and no previous acting or rehearsal had taken place for all the actors are busy farm women and they came from sections covering distances of morel more than 30 miles so fine and realistic was the acting which was mostly in pantomime that the spectators were moved from laugh to tears as indian and pioneer life moved on in successive scenes and culminated in the civic life of a modern country town indian life was depicted by the sylvan club and the dramatis diamatis dra matis per ronnae were mesdames dow findley pedigo go woods yates marr heron and williford with her in cradle on her back in true indian fashion all were costumed in indian attire and presented in several acts the making of pottery grinding corn weaving baskets making fire by striking flint and various other activities with an indian dance as their final scene the background pictures res for this part were cleverly done by miss bliss miller the teacher of the while lethe the preliminary and between acts preparation were being made dorthis for this scene mrs hugh baumgartner gave an interesting sketch of contemporary history in europe following this was the coming of the white man which was most cleverly dramatized by the cahone cabone club the personnel being mesdames neeley goodman newcomer nichols larmer and lewis memories of pioneer life were vividly brought back and we lived over our experiences as we saw the covered wagon making its trek through the sage and the wild indian peering thru the window then came the coming of the aa attle e men which was enacted althe the WI CC of northdale reolo mesdames crapo howell eastin shutt redshaw and butt giving a roundup camping scene in true cowboy style and typical costume the hostess club enacted the clearing of the sage the stage being covered with that familiar shrub the grubbing hoe was dexterously wielded by those sturdy actors and a cabin soon erected then came the school house and lastly the tractor with its transforming power all was pleasingly dramatized by the women of this club who ware were mesdames butler daughetee Dough etee palmer and miss lela asla daughetee Dough etee mrs leslie gave bits of history off stage as the different phases of progress were 4 1 ahe ahe final scene by the dove areek reek club gave modern life in a country town presenting first a laughable takeoff take off on a comani club then the transforming in fluence of a live civic club showed how unattractive streets and yards are changed to ao pleasing green lawns with beautiful flowers A street scene with people going to church and the different attitudes that prompt humanity closed the pageant the dove creek ladies enacting were mesdames cowling davis miller westfall fall shute dean hunter mcadory Mc Alory Coll collins insi hutchins dunn and miss louise small |
