Participants have the option of camping out in the canyon or returning to Blanding nightly. Guides, vehicle repair, sanitation and emergency facilities, and entertainment are provided. The San Juan County Development Board and three other groups have organized a three-da- y jeep trip into Arch Canyon, one of Southeastern Utahs most scenic and historic places. The 1st Annual Arch Canyon Jeep Jamboree takes place from Friday, March 31, through Sunday, April 2, 1989. Check-iis on Thursday, March 30, in Blanding. The trip is limited to Park visitors n 100 Jeep-bran- d vehicles, manu- factured by the Jeep Eagle Corporation. Jeep is a division of the Chrysler Corporation, one of the sponsors of the trip. The jamboree, says the San Juan County Development Boards Peggy Humphreys, is a opportunity for drive enthusiasts. The trail is a real challenge and the scenery is fantastic, she says. The canyon has steep, red rock walls and some Anasazi Indian cliff dwellings and granaries that are over 800 years old. Courtesy photo four-whe- el well-preserve- d Cougar weightlifters dominate state meet The Cougar Weightlifting Club from Monument Valley High School dominated the 1989 Utah State Weightlifting championships held on March in Salt Lake City. The Cougars brought home 9 individual state championships along with 3 seconds and 3 thirds to dominate the team scoring. Cougars who captured 4 state titles in the Junior Division are; Bryon Fatt 60kg class, Vem Collins 82.5kg class, and Aurelia Maze in the womens 60kg class. Jarvis Redhouse placed 3rd in the 75kg class. In the Teen Division Randy age of weight lifted in proportion to their bodyweight. Other Cougars who competed and set many personal records include Odell Betsui, Sloan, Jeff Atene, Donald Mose, Ralph Luna, and Elroy Charles captured state titles in the 52, 56 60, 67.5 and 100kg classes respectively. Charles Burand, Brent Denny, and Roy Atene all placed second, with Charlston Charles and Jimmy Charley taking thirds. In the Senior Division Coach Ollie Whaley placed first in the 90kg class. Bryon Fatt, Jeff Atene, and Coach Whaley all Sean Fatt, Cameron Fatt, Nathan Roberts, Eric Yellow-man- , Raynard Frank, Chris consists of two lifts, the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. The meet was sanctioned by the United States Weightlifting Federation and sponsored by Bigger, Faster, Stronger of Salt Lake City.
