TAYLOR IS PROMOTED Adjutant of Reconstruction Hospital Is Advanced to Rank of Major. Lieutenant Colonel Emery C. West, cavalry. U. S. A., who has been executive officer at the Third war prison camp. Fort Douglas, for i lie past year and a half, has received orders directing him to report to the ' comma nding officer of the Fourteenth division at Camp Custer. Michigan, for duty. Colonel West left for the new camp UiL night and it is expected that he soon . wiil be on his way to 'France, probably with the rank of colonel and in comma com-ma nd of a repiment of cavalry. Uffirers and men of the Third prison suard regret deeplv lo see the lieutenant colonel leave, but are glad for his sake that he has been able to realize his desire de-sire for assignment to active duty with a cavalrv regiment. "Lieutenant Emil Korjan. who has been with the war prison company for more than a vear past, will be acting executive ex-ecutive officer of the prison camp until a permanent executive officer is assigned by the adjutant general at Washington. Advanced Rapidly. Men tenant Colonel West was one of the first officers assigned to duty with the war prison camp when that was established at the fort about a year and a half ago. He came here as a lieutenant on the retired list, called back into active service for the emergency. After he had been on dutv for some time he successfully success-fully passed the physical examination and was restored to the active list. He was at once promoted to the rank of captain and in a short time was again advanced to the rank of major. This summer he was again advanced to tire rank of lieutenant lieu-tenant colonel and is due soon for promotion pro-motion to the 'full rank of colonel. In addition to being a military officer with an excellent record, Colonel West ib an orator and a writer or recognized ability. While here he has delivered a number of addresses before the Bonneville Bonne-ville club, the Commercial club and other prominent organizations of the city. He has written considerable poetry of a patriotic pa-triotic nature that has commanded attention. at-tention. Taylor Becomes Major. Promotion from the rank of captain to major has come to Captain F. W. Taylor, M. C. Major Taylor was adjutant of the reconstruction hospital, having been assigned as-signed to that duty by Lieutenant Colonel E. G. Xorthington when the latter began the organization of the institution. His promotion automatically relieves him from duty as adjutant. A large number of new medical officers and nurses have arrived at the post for duly with the general hospital, and the work of preparing for arrival of patients is progressing rapidly. In fact, the hospital hos-pital is ready to receive patients now any time the war department is ready to send them. It is anticipated that it will not be long before the, first contingent of patients pa-tients will be coming. Fort Douglas is still free from influenza and the officers are hoping that it will continue to be. Every precaution is being be-ing taken to prevent the disease from getting into the camp. |
