Churches and charity organizations, organi-zations, taking advantage of the gift spirit, thriftily turn it to account to raise funds for their churches or pet charities, and offer tempting displays of fancy work, representing the labor of love of dainty fingers, for the consideration con-sideration of the Christmas shopper. And the seekers of gifts feel a double pleasure in securing something attractive attrac-tive for those they love and a sense of having aided a good cause. The bazaars are made social functions as well as a means of helping out the exchequers of the church and philanthropic philan-thropic societies. Loading among affairs af-fairs of this kind this week will be one to be given under the auspices of the St. Mark's cathedral guild and the East Sido guild of the same parish at 61 South Main street, Wednesday and Thursday. Tea will be served in the afternoons. Mrs. Ernest Gafford is acting act-ing president of- the St. Mark 's guild and Mis. F. A. Pike i president of the East Side guild. The Kast Side guild is divided into four sections, with the following ehair- men: Section 1, Mrs. Joseph Portugal; section 2, Mrs. "Walter Gunter; section 3, Mrs. Stephen A. Bailey; section 4, Mrs, C. A. Faus. Various members of the guilds have charge of different booths where attractive wares will be offered for sale. The tea committee is composed of Mrs. George Y. The First Presbyterian Aid society served a turkey dinner Thursday evening in connection with a Christmas sale, which continued through Fridav. 5N celebration of their golden wedding anniversary, Mrs. F. E. Marcy entertained en-tertained for her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Finney, at a family dinner Tuesday evening at the Marcy home on P street. Mr. and Mrs. Finney received numerous telegrams of congratulation con-gratulation from friends at a distance. Mr. and Mrs. Finney were married at Milton, Pa., in 1805. Mrs. Finney was Miss Anna Cliugan, The ancestors of both camii to America early in 1700 from the north of Ireland and were of Scotch-Irish descent. They came to Salt Lake five years ago to make their hom' and are living at 1125 Bueno street. They have two children, Mrs, Marcy of this city, and Edward Clingan Finnpy of Washington, D. C, chief law examiner exam-iner for the interior department; also three grandchildren, Miss Helen Marcy of this city and two children of their son. A SLR PRISE party was given Mrs. E. J. Magor, wife of the pastor of the lliff -Methodist church, yesterday in celebration of her birthday, by members mem-bers of the Home Missionary society of the church. Members of the society went in a body to the Magor home, 1029 Second avenue, at 2 o'clock, with a luncheon menu already prepared. The tabic was spread and decorated in yellow yel-low chrysanthemums. Covers were laid for twenty. The afternoon was spent in a Kensington. Mrs. Magor was presented pre-sented with a birthday gift by the society. MRS. L. E. HUBBARD entertained her bridge club Friday afternoon at her home on Seventh East street. Lancheon was served at 1:30 o 'clock with the bridge game following. Covers Cov-ers were laid for sirteen. " ARRANGEMENTS are being made to Lrive a Scandinavian charity ball at the Odeon hall December 29, for the benefit of the Scandinavian poor of Salt Lake City, which will be given by the most prominent Scandinavian people peo-ple of Salt Lake City. The invitations will be issued the coming week. The decorations will be on an elaborate scale. A buffet supper will be served, which will be presided over by some of Salt Lake City !s most popular young women. Officers of the Scandinavian society in charge of the affair are H.
