Dominion. Ottawa, March 5. The most men-orable men-orable canvas in the history of the dominion do-minion has been brought to a close. The last speech has been made and today to-day tho issue will bo decided at tho polls. The party organs fired their last guns this morning and plied the party whip with vigor. Iu Toronto business is almost entirely suspended today. The indications are that one of the heaviest votes on record will be polled in that citys-i j V. In Quebec tho polling began quietly this n'orning, the whole police force on duly and stationed where disturbances are likely to take place. Tho storm yesterday and last night blocked the country roads so badly that many voters living far off will not bo able to reach the polls. In London, Out., both parties are making strenuous efforts to bring their supporters to the polls. A large number num-ber of outsiders arrived on the morning trains. This election is cenceded to bo the hottest ever contested in this city, and neither party is over confident. In Montreal there is little to indicate that this is election day except the knots of men gathered on the street corners discussing the prospects which are as yet as problematic as ever. The vote is expected to be the largest within the memory of politicians. It is being quietly and systematically polled. |
