Show ALONG TIIBJUILIIOADS The Western Passenger Association's Convention Con-vention Promises Some Furious Fnn for the Eailroads. THE NEWS OF VARIOUS LINES All Over the West and Elsewhere Not a OaseB of Forgery The Hunt System Has Been Sold. An important question will be met at the regular meeting of the Western Passenger association, now in session at Chicago. The members who are also members of tho Western Trallic association as-sociation must also abide by the agreement agree-ment and luws of that organization, which in some instances, are in direct conllict with those of the other body. Tho Chicago & Alton, the Fort Scott & Memphis, and tho Milwaukee, Lake Shore & Western not having subscribed to the president's agreement, reserve the right to be guided by the rules of tho Western Passenger association in the mnlter of making and meeting j rales, while the lines that arc members of the Western Trallic association can only change rates after their propositions proposi-tions have been duly filed and passed upon by the board of commissioners. ; This subject wa9 discussed at the. , February 'meeting of the Western Freight association, but at the time tho above named roads with the exception : of tho Milwaukee & Western, agreed to temporarily waive the right to chargo the rate on ten days' notice. This they did because none of them had any changes to propose at that mooting. It is understood some of theso roads will apply for authority to make certain rates, and iu case their propositions are voted down, will insist upon the application appli-cation of the ten days' rule. This must inevitably cause friction and the prospects are good for a lively row. To be sure, the commissioners have ruled that when a road in any nuxilliary association which is not a member of the Western Trallic association associa-tion makes a rale not authorized by the commissioners, the other lines may take action under tho rules which provide pro-vide for meeting outside competition without waiting. But it is feared that if this ruling is followed it will only make matters wosse and precipitate the disruption of the association. Not Forfery. The district court of Green county, la., has decided that tho signing of a man's name to a railway mileage book by another party is not forgery. The case arose over the theft from a commercial com-mercial traveler of a Chicago & Northwestern North-western mileage book, which was sold to a Chicago scalper, who in turn sold it to the man who presented it. It was taken up by the conductor and fare collected. col-lected. S'lit was brought by the irate traveling man and the road set up the plea of forgery, which was overruled. K 'trenebment. The system of general retrenchment inaugurated by the Chicago, htirlington & (juincy railway was begun at Aurora, Au-rora, 111., by the laying off of about 800 men. Of these 100 were from the car building department, the department under George II. Koss, superintendent of special freight and car service, and the ollice of superintendent of telegraph Lave been abolished. Railroad Notes, Muuson T. Case, a traveling freight agent of the UP., has resignedand will practice law in Chicago. Tho Rio Grande Western and their engineers and firemen have at last effected ef-fected an amicable settlement. Charles li. Wright has purchased the "Hunt system" in the northwest from I)r.
