Dorler, a young couple from New York city, moved into the town of Rockland, Sullivan county, last winter, and began building a sum-mer hotel on the banks of the Beaver Kill. Saturday last they had their house nearly completed and were about to open it fcr city guests. That even-ing they had an angry altercation, and soon after the wife left the house aud did not return. Next morning her dead body was found lying in ashallow pool of the Beaver Kili, wnere she had drowned herself. When the body had been taken to the house," the grief-stricke- n husband locked himself in the room with it and lirod a pistol bullet into his brain. Tho question of freight rates w as then taken up and, on motion, thu chair ap-pointed George F. Culiner, George Es-mond and E. C. Collin a com-mittee to confer with a similar committee from the chamber of commerce on the same subject. It was then decided to organize a bureau of transportation, and Colonel Donucllan submitted the following res-olution. which was carried unanimously, as it referred to a question thoroughly understood by tho chamber which has had it under consideration for some time past: Resolved, That there be created from and within the membership of Ihe chamber of commerce a bureau to be known as the Salt Lake Cily Transpor-tation Bureau, consisting of eleven members of the chamber of commerce, to be a permanent organization, with power lo appoint a secretary, whose salary is to be determined by he bu-reau, and to be paid out of the funds of the chamber of commerce. The du-ties and powers of this bureau be un-derstood to be to lake up all questions concerning transportation in the ter-ritory tributary to Salt Lake Citv. and. if possible, have referred to it all griev-ances of shippers in the territory indi-cated. The following gentlemen were then named to form Ihe bureau: Fred. Si-mon, wholesale millinery; J. F. Grant, agricultural implements; W. H. Rem-ington, wholesale grocer; Spencer Claw son, wholesale dry goods; G. F. Culiner, wholesale paints, glass, etc.; J, C. Conklin, wholesale ores, etc; H. 1. Mason, w holesale lumber; Henry Colin, wholesale wool and hides; T. G. Web-ber, wholesale general merchandise; If. ('.Lett, stone anil building material, P. W. Madsen. wholesale furniture and hardware. They w ill meet ou Monday night and organize. The many inquiries regarding uatund gas caused 'considerable discussion, and T. A. Davis, Ed. Richards. F. N. Ilo-- s. and M. R. Evans were appointed a committee lo investigate the sub-ject.
