Show MANY:DIE.:': INJLOOD Loss of Life and Property Frem Higil Water at Bridgeport Conn. BRIDGEPORT, Conn., July 81. Loss of life and Immense damage to property followed fol-lowed the bursting' of reservoirs north of this city as a result of the unprecedented fall of rain yesterday. The ' precipitation precipita-tion In the series of showers which struck across Connecticut Saturday and yesterday yester-day reached a- total of seven inches. The dam at Ward's mill, at Aston, went out at 1 o'clock a. m. yesterday, sending a great body of water down through the town of Trumbull.- There was no warning warn-ing to the people who lived on the banks of what is usually a small water course. The house occupied by John Lesco, his wife and several children was picked up by the flood and carried a mile' below. The Lesco family were asleep at the time and all were rescued after a. perilous Journey. ' . ' A house occupied by Michael Moran was hurled against the Berkshire bridge and smashed to kindling' wood, and it is believed be-lieved that Moran was drowned. Police and firemen went to the rescue and saved several lives. In North Bridgeport the water swept against the Barnum avenue bridge and wrecked it just when an ice wagon was crossing it. In the wagon were William Kowxeki and John Btarkln. The wagon and norses were swept away and Kow-sekl Kow-sekl was drowned. Starkln was able to swim ashore. ' ' i |
