Show successful mining on applegate river special correspondence grants pass oregon march 10 the michigan mining milling company which has extensive quartz properties oil on apple gate river wil expend some within the next few months in the development of its mines the company is composed almose entirely of michigan mining men with W T perry as manager already crews are employed erecting buildings shops and quarters A millhouse is also being built and the first consignment of machinery has arrived and will soon be set up in the meantime men are also at work in the mine and the main shaft and drifts are being driven rapidly down the ledge is showing up better with depth average values of from 20 to 30 being received the new reduction plant will be in place and ready for business in the near autre the I lays hays mckay mine of gold hill district has been giving returns steadily all winter while the property has been under development this past week a cleanup of 1600 was realized the ore body is widening out with depth and the owners have every reason to believe it will become a good mine the property lies next the lucky bart and the bart mill is used to frush crush the ores of the two properties good progress is being made in the development of the millionaire mine on blackwell hill some very rich ore has recently been uncovered and the mill is steadily at work the character of the ore has changed from what it was on the surface and the method of treatment is found to be inadequate the values are turning curnin g telluride the quartz resembling that found at me lewis dark clark mine on canyon creek A late mill test of forty tons gave g ave returns of but even with this flattering showing not more than one half the telluride values are saved the greater part of them going over for this reason the management has found it necessary to change the plan of treatment and the present mill will undergo an overhauling and banners of a different type will be placed the millionaire shaft is down feet on a six foot vein at present the management is working on the johnson lead which lies parallel to the main ledge the shaft on the johnson is down nearly feet three crosscuts cross cuts have been run on the foot level and several pay shoots are exposed one of these shoots has a length of feet with six feet of ore throughout eight thousand tons of ore milled at the lucky luchy bart gave returns ranging all the way from 6 to 96 a ton the lucky bart is owned by J H beeman of gold hill and operated by J R mckay of that camp the mine is opened by direct tunnel to a depth of feet and when the tunnel is compelled a depth of feet will be attained the vein is two feet wide with a 16 inch pay streak the tin pan mine of the gold hill district under the management of A A of gold hill is producing a vast quantity of high grade smelting smelling sm elting ore the rock is being cribbed crabbed crib bed and will be shipped when good roads allow the management aside from the development of the property have this past winter built good roads to the mine and erected larger and better quarters for the men all the old workings have been re timbered and the entire mine overhauled shipments made last summer proved the ore to be excellent in character the vein is a true fissure in lime and diorite and has a width of from two to 18 feet values are carried in gold silver and lead A carload of concentrates shipped from the opp mine near jacksonville gave net returns of 1721 five shipments of free gold have also been made from the opp and the property Is making a fine showing and is enjoying a rapid growth under the management of dr J F reddy A dividend of was paid the shareholders a few days ago and similar dividends will follow regularly the dry weather continues and but few hydraulic placers are in operation in fact but few have operated at all this season and but little hope is entertained of water being afforded at all this year as the season is drawing well nigh to a close one of the few mines of northern josephine county that has had water this season is the columbia of grave creek three and four giants have been operated since last fall the water supply of the columbia is one of the best in southern oregon being derived from grave creek through a 35 mile ditch ordinarily six gix giants are operated continually during the mining season but this year only a half battery has been supplied A jar of gold dust and nuggets was brought in by W J wimer wrom the wimer hydraulic mines of waldo a few days ago this old southern josephine placer has been working continually all winter despite the lack of rain mr wimer states they have done very well considering the unusual conditions and have moved a vast amount of gravel shipments of from 1000 to 2000 in dust and nuggets have been made regularly every week through the jackson county bank from the champlin dredger on foots creek just at present the mac machine
