Show IN MINER minera 5 BASIN special correspondence REVIEW la sal mountains grand county utah oct 22 1899 A special distribution of the MINING REVIEW throughout this district list last week was accepted by the mining minina 1 fraternity with much favor and many expressions of appreciation were heard this being the only exclusive mining journal in utah i I 1 am impressed with the idea that it will receive its share of patronage from the mining 11 people of this part of the country it is plain to be seen now that the season of local prosperity is about at an end for this year at least and soon the mountain habitations will be compelled to clos close e in for the winter to say that the past season has been one of decided encouragement is only expressing g it mildly and from what has been accomplished by the poor miners miner and pros much development work will be done this winter those who succeeded in making good showings by surface work have had no trouble in getting capital far enough interested te rested to put up the necessary requirements for winter development work on long tunnels and thereby gaining great depth vertically ti in no instance has there been any back sets or disparaging results where work has been diligently prosecuted and this has been much to our credit in many man y ways as regards I 1 to future operations and investments the work now proposed for the winter in numerous locations will certainly open the season of 1900 1906 with many flattering possibilities and the heavy investment of capital the mineral mountain tunnel project which is intended to penetrate mineral moun tain through to beaver basin a distance of two miles gaining a vertical depth of about 1200 feet has been operated under difficulties I 1 but in spite of this a depth of feet has been reached and a few days ago a fine body of ore was encountered the extent of which is unknown at present this will have a tendency to encourage the projectors and possibly wake up the colorado company to renewed activity and confidence whereby work will be prosecuted this winter upon the business basis first proposed in this event the tha backbone of the mineral zone of this di district will be tapped within feet from the start depth can be gained foot for foot henceforth with the consummation of this enterprise I 1 can assure you that the future of this country as a mineral region will become fixed the tunnel will crosscut cross cut twenty six of the largest veins in the country and from which an immense surface showing has been made and from which favorable returns of gold silver and cogeer in carload car load lots have been received the discovery of the corsair vein this season very materially encouraged people with the he belief that an immense vein of ore cuts through mineral mountain from the mill creek side in a northwesterly and southeasterly direction contrary to the fixed locations along the mountain in a north and south direction crossing the claims at right angles to their location consequently those in line with the big vein will get at least feet of the ore body anyhow the corsair shows a fine body of ore fully twelve feet in width as exposed in a thirty foot shaft a well defined vein between porphyry and lime walls assays essays from the ore made at the huntsman assay office gave per cent copper 80 ounces silver and in gold taken from three samples from wall to wall A carload of the ore is now on the dump taken from the shaft and will be shipped as soon as convenient the corsair is ow owned by L antles major C rose and G R including two fractions on each side of the corsair location the ore is a sulphide carrying chlorides malachite azurite and bromides parties are now on the way from the easi east for the purpose of purchasing the property and at present everything ery thing has been held in check pending its sale and arrangements for working gr the property this winter in beaver basin are the properties of the hatch company recently incorporated upon as the international mining company with attorney S N X king of provo at its head A crosscut cross cut tunnel is now bein being 11 a run to cut the copper queen vein and a depth of feet gained with about feet yet to run before its intersection the property is in charge of lorenzo hatch the discoverer fine winter quarters prepared and three shifts of miners at work from this source remarkable developments are expected to prove the value of mines on the east side of the range ranae in mill creek basin a cripple creek company has made extensive preparations for winter w work ork on a large scale and propose penetrating pilot mountain from the south side of the range loomis and tulley lave have charge of the project and are greatly encouraged with their prospects ts they have the key to the situation on the great porphyry belt and seem to have the grit and backing 11 for the big task they have undertaken cabins are being built tunneling ground started and other preliminary work done for developing the group of properties owned by the iowa mining company recent developments on four of their properties have exposed large bodies of ore with sufficient evidence of their value and continuity to justify them in extensive operations it was upon this property that rich tungsten ones ores were recently discovered the properties owned by the high ore syndicate and which were thrown into litigation last march by the mysterious disappearance of john howell are also being gotten into shape by final settlement and in all probability will be extensive exten extensively siv ely worked this winter whiter mr sam mcgraw who unfortunately lost his eyesight last winter by an explosion in tte the portland mine at victor departs for colorado shortly to push matters to this end they own ten valuable claims in this district and at present all are being worked they have every preparation made made preparatory for work on a large scale without the excitement created by a boom and with several serious setbacks the entire la sal country is still gradually going ahead and the future prospects are indendi indeed very encouraging several shipments of ore have been made the results of which have been very satisfactory and others are to bollow in a short time |
