at all complete without mention being made of the gold star group of eight claims this promising property is located on what is called wonder mountain about eight or ten miles north of silver city and but two miles north of sugar loaf mountain this is comparatively a virgin field but the surface indications are so promising the ledges are so large and well defined and the values almost at the gross roots are so high that it is no wonder that the officials of the gold star mining company are enthusiastic over the future of its property which is most admirably located the eight claims embracing the group covering some of the best ground in this new eldorado THE FORMATION the formation showing within the boundary lines of the gold star group is very favorable for the existence of mineral in large and paying quantities A representative of the mining review in carefully examining this property was forcibly impressed by this feature of the companas comp anys hold holdings lugs granite is the prevailing country 6 rock and deposits in granite are noted for their permanency and continuity this granite is cut by immense porphyry dykes having a strike northeast and southwest Paral lelling these dykes within the boundary da ry lines of the group there are three strong veins productive of mineral the largest of which the mother lode measuring not less than ten feet in width between walls the of the lode being an intrusive porphyry generally the accompaniment pani ment of large bodies of pay ore this ledge is a true fissure the quartz carrying gold silver with a little antimony the rock TV wl A r mum N T A ove the gold star mine no L camp at the gold star no 2 lower workings and at the gold star no 3 apper workings gold star being what is termed ore tah 3 ore is free milling to a large extent and is easily handled by amalgamation and concentration cent ration in its values it goes one third in gold to two thirds in the white metal and the ore bodies average 20 to 30 to the ton although fire tests often disclose much higher values the ore being so easily handled that there seems but little doubt but that this will develop into a big milling proposition with more extensive development and equipment the group extends across north sinker creek from which sufficient water power will bo be obtained to op erate the mill hoisting works and anat mine machinery which is a most import other item in the economical op operation aeration of ant property the ne MINE EQUIPMENT at the present time a shaft house 1 is 11 course of construction at the gold old c star mine and the mac machinery hiner v and equipment for a 12 horse power hoist is now at the siding sid at the railroad terminus install 18 awaiting installs in stalla tion later in the season it is the purpose purpose of the company to introduce electric power powe from the swan falls alls power line 11 n e which aih is now within two miles from the mine this th power will be utilized in the operation mine and mill machinery and the lighting electrically of all the works and buildings of the association which means that expenditure pend iture for light and power will be reduced to a minimum figure the company quite recently has completed a splendid wagon road between the mine and the railroad station a distance of twelve miles in consequence of which its property is now easily accessible adding greatly to its i t S value and the convenience of travel MINH MINE development besides prospecting and uncovering the veins at various points along their course the company has sunk two incline shafts on the mother lode at a pitch of about 30 degrees to the east in both cases the vein has straightened up as the workings attained depth and no doubt exists in the mind of the management as to the permanency benc y ot of this great body of the precious metals the upper shaft was sunk for prospecting purposes only and no permanent equipment will be installed at this point the mother lode outcrops heavily and is pay ore it can be traced for hundreds of feet on the surface and is a cause of wonder and gratification to the experienced miner and prospector giving as it does promise of great things for the future of the property and this promise is greatly strengthened by the fact that the group presents a perfect net work of quartz veins veils and fissures emphasizing the heavy of this promising and valuable ground the two parallel veins above mentioned measure two and three feet in width at the surface respectively although these appeal strongly to the company officials and will receive due consideration in the near future no depth has as yet been obtained in their development and exploitation excepting in the way of superficial work at the surface where many samples have been bee taken which when submitted to assay tests disclose values running from 5 to to the ton on the mother lode vein active work will be maintained until suf su focient ore has been blocked out to justify the erection of reduction works this work wo will be greatly facilitated by tile the erection of the new hoisting plant above mentioned mentaw and when the proper time comes it is 11 intention to put in a mill employing the concentration cent ration process of ore reduction when the property meeting the expectation of the company will line up with the other producing and paying properties of owyhee owahee county without a doubt among other pleasing features associated with the holdings of the gold star company it possesses scenic attractions which appeal to the old timer and the newcomer new comer alike it is here that we have I dahos garden C of the gods so designated by frank E plummer fiscal agent for the company and this picturesque spot is well
