Show THE LONE MOUNTAIN RANGE miner tonopah To nev about twenty one miles southwest of tonopah To on the silver peak road there is rapidly springing SP ringing up a mining camp destined to be of very considerable importance the s first jagt discovery was made on what is known as the cutting griffin group by J C griffin prospecting for himself and henry cutting the claims are located on the southwestern slope of the southern end of the lone mountain range and are staked north and south on the course of porphyry formation to the west of which lies a slate ridge with which it apparently forms a contact the first discovery was on an outcrop of ore about sixteen inches wide rich in chlorides and bromides of silver and native silver assaying from ounces to 1300 ounces of silver and from 4 to 42 in gold twenty claims were located and surface prospecting has been continued with great intelligence ever since proving that the first discovery which can be traced for feet is a break from the main vein this break varies in width from sixteen inches to four feet at a depth of thirty feet in an incline shaft and is so situated on the slope of the hill that it can be easily stripped for S shipment west and south of this the ore body has been exposed in an open cut on its course a well defined fissure vein between porphyry walls carrying a talc gouge on the hanging wall and yielding high assays essays from wall to wall surface work has proved the vein over a distance of 2000 feet carrying payable values the entire length west of this vein the hills are strewn with quartz float and traversed by stringers cutting across the formation and these led to the discovery of two distinct quartz veins one of which is four feet wide and has yielded high assays essays in gold and lesser values in silver the parallel vein to this varies from four feet to six feet wide also carrying good values both these veins have a northeast and southwest course apparently trending towards the slate and porphyry contact further surface work is now being done to ascertain if another discovery of quartz is a continuation of one of these veins or an entirely new body of ore men are now engaged prospecting the surface but it is probable that within the next thirty days active development of the property will commence this can be easily and cheaply accomplished by a crosscut cross cut tunnel which would give about feet of backs on the western ledge there is no intention of making an immediate shipment of ore as it is believed that the development of the district will warrant the erection of a plant for treating the local ores es at an early date griffins discovery led to many locations in that district of which the paymaster on the south is perhaps the best known this company is developing one ne ledge by a shaft which is now fifty five feet et deep and will be at once continued to the foot level drifts north and south on the 55 foot level have opened up a body of ore which gives indications of widening at depth and has yielded high values ore can be sorted for shipping but it is doubtful if the company will follow this extravagant course A matter of great importance to this district was the striking of fresh water this week in a well sunk on the paymaster property at a depth of fifty feet a good flow was struck and a windmill pump will be installed and the well deepened As water heretofore had cost U 5 a barrel hauled from silver peak it I 1 is hoped that some of the other promising claims in this district will now be developed 0 |
