'I he following letter let-ter was written to-day by Commis-missioner Commis-missioner Pieasauton, and sent to Supervisor Su-pervisor Dutcher, of Xew York: "Sir: It appears there is a misunderstanding as to the proper execution ofthe act of Congress assessing incomes. The following fol-lowing decision will govern section 11 of the act of Cougre.-s of July 14th, IsTO, which only requires every person ol lawful age, whose gross income during dur-ing the preceding year exceeds two thousand dollars, to make and render a return to the assistant assessor of the district in which he resides. Persons whose incomes are less than two thousand thou-sand arc not required to make returns, nor is there any authority of law for assessors to call for such returns." |
