Show Bingham Canon Mine-, January 3oth, 1-71 . Editors JI-Tnld: My time being much occupied since comiDg into this canon a little over a week ago, in visit ing the various leads, climbing over the hills, in a great many places waist deep in snow, consequently considerably considera-bly fatigued when evening comes, I have neglected sending you what little news the canon affords. On the 19th of this month there was a great excitement here, occasioned by a stranger finding what purported to be a very rich gold lead. Specimens were brought down, roasted in the blacksmith's forge, pounded down and washed out in a gold pan, leaving visible visi-ble to the naked eye numberless colors of gold. After that, other pieces were tried and all with the same result. My curiosity was considerably excited, so nothing would do but I had to go to the lead myself, break the quartz, and then inspect it. After going through the process of panning down, the result re-sult was the same. Some claim it will yield a thousand dollars to the ton of quartz in gold, besides a con.- idcrablo quantity of silver. I went in company yesterday with some scientific mineralogists and miners to inspect the lead, and they all gave it as their opinion that alter it was opened out a lew feet it would all pretty much run to silver. That, of course, nothing but time cau determine. deter-mine. It is unmistakably a ' big thing." Prospecting is Dow all thu rage. Notwithstanding the depth of snow on the. hill sides and summits scores of men cau be seen literally wallowing through the snow in search of another "Juuo," as the above-mentioned lead is called. The Italian Minstrels enlivened our town on Saturday, and wound up with ' a ball in the evening. It is quiti amusing to witness a ball in a mimnt camp; they all seem to go in with buoL a vim, as- though their whole existciici depended on ''letting thcm.-olves out.' Everything passed off very pleasantly and profitably to the miustrcls. ;, Business appears very dull out her'. The provision dealers and butchc1-seem butchc1-seem to do about all the business.
