Show ON SNAKEJREEK. ITore 3Ielange From 3liil-way's 3liil-way's Metaphoriciaii. John T. Caine, Attewoll Abel, Eot Pots, Cold Baths, This, That and J. E. "Wilson. "Wil-son. Midway, Utah, July 20. Special Correspondence to The Morning Dispatch. Dis-patch. I might as well begin with the last-named subject (or object) named in the bill-of-fare heading this meal ol Midway Musings. He was the last thing I met coming out of the Midway Assembly Hall, about 11 o'clock to"-night to"-night (look out! 1 may spin this later out till July 30, a.m.) It was dark, almost as dark as only the mind of an obfuscated, obscurant Republican could be, and persist to remain after the lurio, "lightful," clear and bright address on Democracy, which Hon. John T. Caine had delivered to a most appreciative (excluding J. L. W .) audience during two hours, as well and p.ofltably spent as time ever was spent in that edifice. Dark! Yes but there was a glimmer ot light oozing from the side of a manlike man-like individual. (I am glad to say for the sake of the general respect l" have fot humanity that I did not think, nor do think now, that he was a Re publican, or could be, if known). 1 took nim for a Christian, for a neighbor, for a fellow being. I had a fain' iy glistening glisten-ing hope in my altogether too ciedulous heart that he would not refuse to let "his light shine," far enough, to get me across Union Square, onto Washington Wash-ington avenue, where the Ware office used to be till it was transferred across to the blacksmith shop on Main street. 'Please, neighbor, can I take advantage of your light, since you are going in my direction?" I asked. "No. you d il pup!" were the responsive remarks ol the mouthpiece of Midway Republicanism. Republican-ism. Did those epithets lout me? No. How could they? What's the matter' with a grunt? Do you get mad at it when you know where it comes from? I don't. If a man (or weak reprint of one) comes on to one like this. I u note scripture and cite Hosea XIII, 2 and add as an appendix my full confidence in Abram Hatch to make good his pledges. For I do profess an unenvying admiration ad-miration for him. Why shouldn't I? I havejtaken not the Lord's name to but scripture?" vain, while referring him. Hut he can. and I think he will pay j all the repairs done to my copy Jfi King James, while quoting "him. Hon. Abram Hatch is in a most enviable en-viable position, if I come to reconsider it. I do this, anticipating your copies not to reach Wasatch county till the election is over, for then joii might effect what I don't think you ought to. He has three nominations: The Emery county Republicans want hmi. And I have hopes that they know-why. know-why. The Wasatch county Citizens' said long ago they felt as if he was "the last resort." And I think they should be allowed to "resort."' And, last but not least, come the Wasatch Was-atch county Democrats and swallow him whole, as is he was tho best peeled mMh DrfVllv Ttnfc pri niin t.lmfc ! -Ill were-runiangj ajatcu county j as I think nobody ii running it any more, not even Judge T. S. Watson (although a few overly-kind friends at one time made him more or less confidentially confi-dentially believe that he was within a few miles of attaining that muchly to be labored manipulation) 1 would just do as Mr. Hatch is doing. First Vanderbilt, Abram Hatch and I would say: "The public be kin.', enough to take a back seat!" Second 1 would induce Mr. Hatch to prevail on Mr. Vanderbilt to bring himself him-self to the selection of a sini lar location, loca-tion, seeing that the "bald-headed row" was fully occupied. Third I would take snuff, 1 would sneeze, I would pull my band-kerchief band-kerchief (if I had one), I would blow my nose, I would feel relieved, I woulii put my handkerchief back into my pocket (if I had one loft by that time), I would look at my nose, and I would quote the motto of Pitch and say to Mr. Hatch no worse than did Melchizedck in Genesis XIV, 19. In fact, and in truth, Wasatch county can well be proud of having a representative (the only one in the history his-tory of territorial, or state politics) who will be elected on three tickets, with- J out having confined his faith or confided con-fided his pledge to either or any of them. Now, I know that I have acute (as well as chronic) grammarians watching my very syllables. Hence when I sneak of three tickets and then refer to them as "either or any of them," I must explain ex-plain myself, or rather the situation. I will risk a diagram, which I know The Morxi.no Dispatch will see executed, exe-cuted, if it takes all the -'bums'' in the pen and all the bulls in the stray pound to pull it straight. But it will be a "scoop" on the Enquirer and N. Y. Pi ess pictures. EMERY. WASATCH. OLSON emerges to the left, from Emery. Jlen. nomination goes from Emery to HATCH, where it is met, in an angle of 45 degrees, by Citizens' from Wasatch, whence comes also a tenta-rily tenta-rily serpentine and uncertain line, retracing re-tracing itself cautiously, finally arriving arriv-ing at the great triangular meeting- point at HATCH. Mr. Editor: "iou Provo people are j good artists. You proved it so musi- cally and dramatically in making so df lightful a success of my "Coronation Cantata" on Pioneer Day. I am glad for your sake I wasn't there, because I might have spoiled the fun. But I would like to be there when you draw the diagram about Brother Hatch getting get-ting his tripartite nomination. If Jos. A. West was as near as he used to be tome in the days of the Ogden Junction, Junc-tion, I could draw it better. But, meanwhile, I leave you to guess out that map with the following algebraic series of equations, by which I might succeed in getting higher than 50 per cent in my examination for the royal prerogative of teaching Wasatch countv babies the "2 times 2 is 4." i Dem. em. i Was. Dem. x i Was. Cit. x 4 Rep. em. "Em. has no reference to a druggist's drug-gist's prescription, nor to the boy's "Em." "Em." is all right, so she told me last evening. Well, I think the Ems. and Dems. are all right. And so will the Reps, be and all good people except the j idot3 and crank3 and brutes whom Shakespeare describes in his "Tempest," "Tem-pest," when de depicts "Caliban."
