The Ki quhtr last night contained the follow ing conimunicatioi : "Payson. July 14. Last ni;rht tin Democrats of this city met in can us and appointed delegates to attend tin Twelfth Representative district con vention, which is to be held in Spanish Fork to-morrow. There were only twenty-two present at this important meeting, notwithstanding the fact that the city of Payson is Democratic (?). These sons of Democracy concluded to instruct their delegates to place in nomination nom-ination as candidate for the lower House, J. D. Irvine, with instructions that lie work for the division of Ufa I county, witli Payson as county seat for the new county." Immediately upon the publication of tlie above, people, could "smell a rat" somewhere, and n Disi'atcu reporttr immediately struck out to see if there was any truth in the latter port of the communication relating to the division of the county. Leading Democrats Dem-ocrats vere asked if they thought there was any grounds for such aci :on as th reported, 'aiwrii.-. every t;'sa'o(ieTre-ply t;'sa'o(ieTre-ply was most emphatically NO. Steps were then taken to find out from Payson, and in answer to a special spe-cial message sent the Democratic club there, the following w as received : Editor Dispatch: The report published pub-lished in the Enquirtr to-nitfht, to the effect that in the event of the election of Mr. J. D. Irvine to the Legislature, that he will work for a division of Utah county, with the county seat at Payson, is a lie, pure and simple. No such instructions in-structions were eyer given. In fact, so far as is learned, no one present ever thought of such a thing. We instructed our delegates to nominate Mr. J. D. Irvine for the legislature, but we never instructed him in the least to work for & division of the county and do not b-lievesuch a thing possible. Whoever sent the Enquirer the report (if any one did) IS A LIAR, and either President Harper or m self is ready lomeot him any time and at any place he wants to and hurl the falsehood false-hood into his teeth.
