Cluuhvick Warren C Buley For liecorder - Francis B. Aln-1 For Treasurer -Mrs. Lillie Wild In presenting to our fellow voters our nominees for their vote Tuesday next, we have no apologies to oiler. Our candidates candi-dates are so well known that it is unnecessary to give a detailed detail-ed write up of each one. You vnll see at a glance that we have a splendidly balanced ticket representing the various activities of the community. Our Democratic; friends appear to have practically ignored the fact that there arc other interests in-terests in the city to be represented beside the business interests. inter-ests. With a single exception the agricultural interests, representing ninety per cent of our community activity have been forgotten. Fellow voters, why should not the sheep men, the poultrymeu and the tillers of the soil have an adequate representation? This year's city tax shows 15 mills. It is possible that our present city council, candidates for re-election, to whom taxes are not so burdensome, do not appreciate the difficulty their agricultural friends and small home owners own-ers experience in meeting their taxes? We feel sure if our Republican Mayor and Council is elected that there will be no increase in city tax. Just a word or two concerning our candidates. Our candidate for Mayor, Mr. William Chipman, is a thorough business man. His father; James Chipman, was the first Republican Mayor of American Fork City, and made a most splendid record, going into every detail of city expenditure expendi-ture and providing a complete check on the funds of the city. William Chipman by reason of training and natural ability will be able to successfully follow in, his father's footsteps and will give us a splendid business-like administration. Mr. Chipman has given his word that if elected, he will give the necessary time to the job even if he has to hire an assistant in the store. Walter A. Devey, our candidate for 4-year Councilman is a man of experience. For years he was master mechanic for the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company and is now engaged in farming farm-ing and poultry raising. By reason of his wide range of experience ex-perience his services will be particularly valuable to American Fork City. William J. Chadwiek's record as a public servant is unexcelled. unex-celled. Always alert in the performance of public duties, an experienced and successful farmer and poultryman, Mr. Chad-wick Chad-wick knows the needs of the community. Wjarren C. Boley represents particularly the sheep industry indus-try an important part of our community activity. Mr. Boley is also a land owner and knows the people and their wants, and his former business experience will add to his efficiency as a city councilman. Our candidate for Recorder, Francis B. Abel is one of the bright young men of our city, and since his return from the Canadian Mission about a year ago has proved himself an invaluable in-valuable help in boy scout work and other community activities. For some months past he has been taking a special course at the L. D. S. Business College in business accounting, typewriting, etc., qualifying himself for such work as the city recordership requires. Let's give the young men of the community com-munity a chance and keep them here, particularly when we have such material as we have in Mr. Abel. Mrs. Lillie Wilde, our candidate for City Treasurer is a lady well known in the community, having been identified for many years with relief work and is a member of the Service Star Legion. She is a lady of ability competent to handle the work of ,City Treasurer successfully. She is in every way worthy and deserving of your support. Is it wise, fellow ' voters, to keep a City Treasurer in office indefinitely? The handling of the funds of the people is a very important part of the city's business. Too long a tenure in office is very apt to result in lax methods, as the histories of other communities will bear out. For the good of the tax payers, we believe a City Treasurer should not hold office continuously for more than two terms. In voting the Republican ticket next Tuesday, fellow voters, we feel confident you will make no mistake, and will insure an honest-business-like administration of city affairs for the next two years. Respectfully submitted, Republican City Central Committee. (Political Advertisement) |
