Show u New Utah County Jail Is Now Ready Governor George H. Dern was the principal speaker at the formal opening of the new county jail on Tuesday. The jail opened officially October 29 when the commissioners held a meeting, meet-ing, commencing at 10:30, at which time several prominent men spoke. Immediately after the program, Joseph Nelson, architect, conducted the public through the jail explaining explain-ing the various details. Bought Tor $17,500 During the spring of 1928, the property pro-perty formerly owned by Hhe National Na-tional Pump company, valued at $65,-000 $65,-000 was purchased by the county for $17,500, and a cancellation of back taxes. This amount also included machinery valued at $5,000, which is now used in the coun'ty work shop. Before purchasing the building the commissioners realized the need of a new jail, and with this idea iu mind the building was purchased. Joseph Nelson was asked to draw up plans for the remodeling of the plant which were accepted last fall by the commissioners. Actual work did not get under way until this spring. C. A. Tolboe was given the general contract for the remodeling, who in 'turn gave P. L. Iirson the plumbing and heating contract. The Southern. Prison company of San Antonio, Texas, installed the steel cago work. Septic tanks were in. stalled by Jarod Keller of American Fork, lighting by Guyniou and Talbot, Tal-bot, and painting by W. R. Scott. The total cost of the remodeling is cslimaled at $35,000, but the citizens citi-zens of Utah county can now boast of one of the most modern jails iu j the intenuountaln region. |
