Atkin, the two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Atkin, who died early Wednesday morning following a week's illness, were held Saturday afternoon in the Second ward chapel. chap-el. Guy Hillman of the bishopric conducted the services. The opening song "That Sweet Story of Old" was sung by Mrs. May R. Walker of Lindon, after which Jesse Thome offered the invocation. A violin solo, "Serenade" was played by Marilyn Richards, accompanied by Zoe Adams. Patriarch David B. Thome, spoke of the terrifying conditions of the world today which caused him to be more concerned for the living than for the dead. He bore a strong testimony concluding with the statement, state-ment, "I feel sure that if Ray and Bernadette live according to the teachings of the gospel they will be re-united with their baby and have the privilege of rearing him in the world to come." A duet, "Sometime We'll Understand", Under-stand", was sung by Mrs. Stella Hardman and Mrs. Viola Beers, accompanied ac-companied by Howard Paxman. Mrs. Lucile H. Walker, in a short talk stressed the thought that in a world where prospects for youth do not look bright, the parents of the deceased can be comforted by the assurance that they will have the privilege of rearing their little son under ideal conditions, and that he is in the care of the wisest and kindest kind-est of all beings, the Heavenly Father Fath-er and Mother in Heaven. Mrs. Margaret Deveraux,' accom-1 panied by her sister Mary Burns, sang "Your Little Rosebud Has Left You". President W. W. Wamick in his sermon, expressed his conviction that the joy of life is service, and that accounts for the fact that people peo-ple get more happiness out of children chil-dren than anything else, and also explained why failure to observe this great principle has brought about the appalling conditions in the world today. In his remarks in behalf of the Second ward bishopric, Guy Hillman paid tribute to the family of the deceased, who have graciously done all they have been asked to do. He expressed the appreciation of the bereaved family for those who took part in the services, for those who assisted in other ways, and for the beautiful floral offerings. The closing song "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling Me", was sung by Mrs. Ora Holman Chipman of American Fork, accompanied by Howard Paxman. The benediction was given by Hy-rum Hy-rum Robertson. Bishop Joseph S. Walker dedicated the grave. |
