" s N 1 l I- f T ' - -t' " N- .1 ' : I - r v h i MARTIN NIELSEN The entire community was sad- dened Tuesday morning by the death of Martin Nielsen, 52, prominent business man and civic worker. Mr. Nielsen took ill several months ago and for several weeks has gradually grown worse. At the time of his death Mr. Nielsen Niel-sen was head of the Nielsen Auto company, Ideal Chevrolet agency He engaged in the selling of cars and operation of a garage for the past 17 years here. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nielsen, he was born in Randers' Denmark, February 7, 1885, and came to Utah at the age of seven with the L. D. S. missionaries. He first lived with Jacob Jorgenson in Cache Valley. In October 1905 he married Mary Cooper and shortly afterward was called to fill a mission mis-sion to Denmark. Upon his return he made his home in Cache Valley, but shortly afterward moved to Provo Pro-vo Bench. He was manager of the White Sewing Machine company store in Provo for several years. About 20 years ago he moved to American Fork, where he opened an automobile agency which he has since operated and built up to one of the largest in Utah county. . Mr. Nielsen was prominent in civic undertakings. At the time of his death he was a member of the American Fork hospital board. He was a charter member of the local Lions club, organized ten years ago, and served as its second president. He served on the first Poultry Day committee and was finance chairman chair-man for several years. He was a member of the fire Commercial club in American Fork and belonged to the Bonneville club in Salt Lake City. He was active in church affairs, having served in the superintend-ency superintend-ency of the First ward Sunday school for a number of years. He was always considered one of the city's progressive citizens and did much to help build his community and church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mary Cooper Nielsen, 12 sons and daughters, Mrs. Verna Timothy, Greeley, Colo.; Keith C. Nielsen, Po-catello, Po-catello, Idaho; Kenneth Nielsen, Salt Lake City, and Max, Ray, Fred, Ida, Roy, Ruth, Dick, Ted and Joan Nielsen, all of American Fork, and five grandchildren. A brother, Anton An-ton Nielsen, Denmark, and two sisters, sis-ters, Marie Nielsen, California, and Mrs. Senith Peterson, Mississippi, also survive. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Friday) in the Alpine stake tabernacle, commencing at 2 o'clock. The body may .be viewed at the family residence prior to the services. o |
