Show Can We Afford To iss The Opportunity i . While at the irrigation company's m eating, it was decided that the company com-pany as a company should not subscribe sub-scribe for Deer Creek Project water, this does not preclude farmers and home owners from securing this water by organizing a water users' association, and the U. S. Reclamation Recla-mation Service is willing to deal with such an association and see that we receive fair treatment in the matter of commingling our water with that under the jurisdiction of the American Ameri-can Fork Irrigation Company. After the regular meeting, a considerable con-siderable number of water users de-sirious de-sirious of participating in the Deer Creek project remained and several hundred acre feet tentatively sub-scribd sub-scribd for and it is desired that all wishing some of this Deer Creek project water sign up for what they may wish whether it be for one acre foot or for one hundred; and if suf-ficent suf-ficent are desirous of getting this water to justify the undertaking, a water users' company will be organized, organ-ized, and there is no doubt but that all the details of distribution can be worked out. The following have been named in the four districts who will each have a list, and will be pleased to accept of your signature for what water you may wish and furnish any information infor-mation that you may desire: First District J. E. Chadwick. Second District James H. Clarke. Third District Geo. F. Shelley. Fourth District Wm. J. Chadwick. Fellow citizens and water users, now is your opportunity to secure an additional late water supply and thus help yourselves and the community generally. If you want more late water, don't fail to get in touch with one of these representatives and sign up for the number of acre feet you I may need. Business men as well as j farmers should be interested in this .proposition. It means growth and development de-velopment to our community. I Geo. F. Shelley. I Editor Citizen: Commenting on the action of stockholders stock-holders of the American Fork Irrigation Irri-gation Company, that the company as a company do not subscribe for stock in the Deer Creek project, the writer cannot help but feel that the action was brought about through misunderstanding and prejudice, and am more strongly convinced than ever that it would be a most serious mistake if the farmers and home owners of American Fork and vicinity vicin-ity fail to take advantage of the great opportunity to participate in the Deer Creek government project. In my opinion this matter has not been considered on its merits, and it would please me very much to have the opportunity of meeting any one of my opponents in a public discussion discus-sion of this question, time and place to be agreed upon, all prejudice to be cast aside, that the people may know the facts. Uncle .Sam is willing to give us the use of several millions of dollars throughout a period of forty years, without interest, only asking that 2 of the principal be paid back each year. Such an opportunity to secure an additional late water supply sup-ply will never come our way again. That our community may grow and develop, it is of utmost importance that we obtain additional late water to supplement our present deficient late water supply. Some have suggested sug-gested that we dig numerous wells, applying electric power thereto, but as there is opposition to this, it is really doubtful whether we can get the relief we need from this source. Instead of purchasing alfalfa hay, for example, from across the river and from Salt Lake County, we should be in a position to not only supply our present needs, but also be in a position po-sition to feed more good dairy cows, and thus materially increase our agricultural prosperity; and to think that $24.16 loaned out at 6 percent i interest . would bring in sufficient returns re-turns to pay the government for one acre foot of Deer Creek project water and at the end of the contract the ?24.1G will still be yours. This is really a fact and not fiction, as any one can figure if he but take the trouble. An acre foot of water will, si'pply sufficient supplemental water i:h what we already have to water a primary acre or lot throughout the season. It should mean an additional two tons of alfalfa hay. approximately approximate-ly enough to pay the $24.16 the first year. Can you bent that for an investment? in-vestment? How ridiculously absurd, if we do not take advantage of it! Do we realize what turning this proposition down would mean to us and to our community? i |
