Show Wednesday, September Pages THE 1974 11, COALITION CITY PARK H.S. Curriculum Criticized The Citizens Community Action Group for Schools met on Thursday, September 3rd, to isolate problem areas relating to the Park City school system. The High School Curriculum The majority of the evening was consumed by discussion on Park Citys high school. The schools curriculum was the focal point of comment and criticism. Mrs. Ann Prince, who chaired the meeting, noted that most of the negative comments concerning Park Citys school gathered during the NTDS survey centered on the course offerings at Park City High. Citing the need for a positive approach" and specifics", Mrs. Prince entertained comments trom the 17 persons in attendance. The opinions voiced indicated a lack of both vocational and college preparatory offerings. A weak language program was singled out as being a deterrent to acceptance at many colleges and universities throughout the coun- Possible Aids The use of accredited volunteer teachers, the flow of elementary school volunteers into the high school with the sixth graders, and utilization of the County Bookmobile and the City Library were advocated as feasible means of augmenting and aiding course offerings. Redislricting A revamping of the Park City School District was also discussed. At present, the school district does not encompass Thaynes Canyon, part ot the Gaim jumper Condominiums, or the Holiday Ranch development. In fact, the proposed site for the new school does not lie within the district boundaries. Fear of county school consolidation has dampened past efforts to have these areas included in the Park City district, but Mrs. Prince said a reluctance to stir up the hornets' nest should not preclude efforts to redistrict. She stated that consolidation was defeated six years ago and it can be defeated again. School Hoard Representation need for school A board representation based on school population was also expressed by Mrs. Prince. North Park City and Summit Park account for one half of the school-ag- e children but have only one representative on the five-ma- n school board, she said. Reports Investigative reports on the high school curriculum, college requirements, state requirements for school redistricting, and school board representation are slated tor presentation at the CCAGs Tuesday. Part of the scheduling problem could be the result of a lack of communication between parent and school. It was stated that many high school students were simply not relaying information and notices printed by the school to their parents. Thus, the parents have been kept somewhat in the dark as to what the school does offer. 22) There ly LEO (July 22) Become a person others can look up to, try skydiving. b. requirements. cerning course selection. 21-Ju- pulling really are pennies from heaven. its just that you have a hell of a time finding them. chain.
