Show -JTy tCL PLANT L 1 1 J hub or pTAjr rem-eneba tme May 30, 1974 OUS Commencement Exercises To Be Held At Smith Fieidhouse Approximately six-hundred and sixty-one seniors will be graduating from Orem High School. The eighteenth annual Orem High Commencement will be held in the George Albert Smith Fieldhouse on May 30, 1974. The seniors this year have chosen for their theme, "Some people look at things that are and asky why; I look at things that never were and ask why not? The Commencement will begin with the Processional, graduates entering first, Board of Education, Honored Guests, and Faculty following. The Mendelssohn number presented will be "War March of the Priests." Lloyd Newell will be conducting, and Robert Louder will give the address of wel come. The Symphony Orchestra will combine withtlieSymphonie Band, playing "Selections from Gershwin," and "Sousa March Medley." Directors will be Wesley Barry and Larry Hill. Two addresses will be given, the first one by SherrySumner, "I believe in America"; the second one by Tom Adams, "Honesty to Yourself." The A Cappella Choir will sing, "Choose Something Like a Star," and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Twro more addresses will be given, one by Jolene Swain, "Our Challenge and the Future," and one by Larry Christensen, "The Highest High-est of Distinction is Service to Others." A tribute to parents will follow, fol-low, and it will be given by Air. Robert Louder Earns High Award Robert Louder has been chosen as this year's Tiger-ama Tiger-ama Award recipient. The award is presented to the student (Boy) who contributed most to Orem High School during dur-ing the year 1973 -1974. Robert has shown ability to excel in many areas. His central focus is in the area of basketball where he has done an outstanding outstand-ing job in representing the. Golden Tigers. After the 1973- 74 basketball season he was chosen to be on the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News All-State Teams; the KUTV, channel 2 All - Tournament team; and the Daily Herald All-Region Team. Robert has demonstrated leadership ability as he was chosen to serve as senior class president and as vice president of the Lettermen's Club during his senior year; he has also served as a seminary class officer. Because of his friendly and j - y v - as J i r 4' Robert Louder well-liked manner he was chosen by the studentbody as King of the Junior Prom in his junior year and as King of the Senior Ball in his senior year. tfarion Bmtly pmnti: Dr. Marion J. Bentley, associate asso-ciate director of the Brigham Young University Honors Program Pro-gram for gifted students, has been appointed assistant dean for general education in the College of General Studies, it was announced today by President Presi-dent Dallin H. Oaks. Dr. Bentley will work under Dr. C. Terry Warner, dean of the College of General Studies, to coordinate the participation and contributions in general education of the University's many departments. Currently president of the BYU 68th Branch of the LDS Church, he also has served as high councilor in the BYU 1st and New Jersey Stakes and as bishop of the Dixie College Third Ward. He marriedDeanna Hawkins Haw-kins and they are parents of four sons. He served as a military training officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1931 to 1933. Janet AUred. Becky Christiansen Christi-ansen will announce the class project. Remarks and recommendations rec-ommendations will be given by Principal Clifton M. Pyne. Following Fol-lowing him will be Eli K. Clay-son Clay-son of the Board of Education who will give his remarks and present the Diplomas. Those who will present the class are; Joe Pratt, Valerie Anderson, Laraine Hone, Joy Jensen, Dorothy Dor-othy Knoell, andStephanieTate. The class sons will be sung by the senior class after the presentation. The benediction and recessional will follow the song. All night graduation activities will begin approximately at 10:15 p.m. in the A Gym with a dance, and will last approximately approx-imately until 1:15 a.m. Pictures Pic-tures will be taken at the dance by a professional photographer, and caps and gowns will be available for pictures. A movie will begin about 1:45 a.ni. at theSceraTheatre, which will be 'Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." There will also be a special movie shown of the activities at Senior S luff. A breakfast and program will be held from 4:15 to5:45a.m.in the school lunch room. .t 6:00 a.m. everyone will go home and go to sleep. Joyces Return From Convention Orem J.C.'s and J.C. wives recently returned home from the State Convention in St. George. While there, other than just attending meetings they attended atten-ded a home show, a fashion show, viewed Indian Ruins and relaxed and enjoyed some Dixie Sunshine. Wayne Owens was one of the keynote speakers speak-ers for the function. Mike Jarrett, outgoing local Club President, was installed as State Vice President of Mt. Timpanogos District and Bill Jacobson, outgoing U.S. Jaycee Director was installed as President's aide to the Utah State J.C. President. Both of these gentlemen will serve in these positions for the coming year. Mr. Jarrett announced that the installation banquet of the new oficers of the Chapter and Auxiliary will be held at the Holiday Inn on June 7, 1974, at 8:00 p.m. Open House For Myrtle Price An Open House celebrating the 80th birthday of Myrtle P. Price will be held Saturday, June 1, 1974 at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ray Phillips, ' at 1085 Patterson St., in Ogdeu, Utah, between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Carter Returns To Long Beach Navy Seaman William H. Cuter, son of Mrs. Irene Kobison of 1888 S. Columbia Lane, Orem, returned to Long' Beach, Calif., aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Okinawa after a seven-iimnth deployment to the Western Pacific.
