Show Page 12 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXIX Issue X April 1, 2022 Third Huntsville Grand Prix Cycle Kart Festival Slated for May 13-14 The Huntsville Grand Prix (HGP) CycleKart Festival and Exhibition is now an annual CycleKart being held in beautiful Huntsville, Utah. The first event was held August 22, 2020, which enjoyed great success for the pilot event. Twenty-three Cyclekarts attended. This captured the title as the largest cyclekart gathering in the world for 2020... and we’re not stopping there! The 2021 Grand Prix was even larger and tied the largest gathering on the planet with a total of 44 cars. Thanks to the Huntsville town council and Mayor Jim Truett, we’re continuing on in the hopes of keeping this ball of energy rolling! The HGP was an accidental spin-off event filling a void when, for reasons other than the COVID pandemic, The Mighty Tieton Grand Prix was cancelled. It is a sibling of Tieton and Gittreville Grand Prix and run in a strikingly similar fashion. It is our belief that a cyclekart is an art form in a way, and an expression that results in ingenuity and fun in the build. It is not a box on motorcycle wheels slathered with house paint, or a murdered golf cart or ATV frame. We take this hobby/sport seriously here. While we try, of course, to allow most people who gave it a good try to attend, but some karts simply don’t cut it. Sorry... build a better-looking car. The Huntsville Grand Prix 2022—the third—is scheduled for May 13 and May 14, 2022. For more information, please visit The Huntsville Grand Prix even site at huntsvillegp. com/events.htm. Wolf Creek Foundation and the “While Hearts Are Apart” Project In response to the current world situation and the dramatic increase in deployments, the Wolf Creek Foundation is sponsoring a summer series of events for families of deployed military members. Twice a month from June through August we will bring 20 to 25 spouses and their children to Eden Park for lunch, an afternoon of fun for the kids, and a variety of programming for the spouses. Once again, the response of our community has been overwhelming! We would like to sincerely thank Eden Park for donating the use of the bowery for the full summer series as well as our upcoming retreat and a Fall Festival for families from HAFB that have children with special needs. A shout out to Athena Steadman of Simply Eden for developing an exclusive line of products for our spouses as well as the staff of the gym at Wolf Creek Resort that will be offering programs for our group. Debi McEntire is offering a Vision Board class for Coming in the spring of 2022, Pleasant View, North Ogden, and Ogden Valley residents will have the chance to win cash awards for writing, submitting, then having their essay selected as one of several peer-selected winners! Our need to embrace and honor the American Spirit has never been greater. We’ll announce this spring how you may participate to be honored as a winner in 2022. Past awards have been given to members of law enforcement, youth city councils, Weber High’s student body, essay winners, and other residents of Pleasant View, North Ogden, and Ogden Valley, including Mayor/Major Brent Taylor and Jenny Taylor. The original awards given in 2010 and 2011 went to students in the Weber School District in grades 4 through 12 who wrote about patriotic themes such as freedom, the Constitution, the Federalist Papers, and the Liberty bell. The On Tuesday, April 2, 2002, members of the Weber Morgan Narcotic Strike Force and the Weber County Sheriff’s Department obtained a search warrant, allowing them to conduct a search of the premises of a home in Nordic Valley. Officers found a sophisticated growing system for about 110 marijuana plants, each being about two to three feet tall. The illegal plants were found growing in the basement of the home where the windows were covered, and a watering and light system had been devised to cultivate the plants. The system and plants were seized by the narcotic strike force, and a male and female were taken into custody. Possible charges against the suspects will include possession and cultivation of a controlled substance. In mid February, another drug raid in Liberty resulted in a police seizure of methamphetamines, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia. Drug charges were filed. Reynolds 20 Years Ago: Police Beat 2002 By Shanna Francis filed 16 misdemeanor counts against Rulon Jones of Liberty for violations associated with building a two-story, eight-bedroom hunting lodge without proper permits. Jones uses the lodge to host hunters each fall as part of a private hunting business called Broadmouth Canyon Ranch. According to an article in the StandardExaminer, dated April 6, the lack of proper permits hasn’t prevented the commercial operation of the lodge. “The glories of the lodge and Jones’ hunting business were recently extolled in the March 2002 edition of American Hunter, published by the National Rifle Association. An article written by A. E. Walsh about his experience at Broadmouth Canyon this past November, described the split-log lodge as ‘first-class accommodations, offering private bedrooms and a family style atmosphere.’” The article added “’This well-appointed kitchen is always staffed with a smiling cook, the showers are always warm, and the beds are always soft,’ the article further stated.” Charges against Jones have been filed in Weber County’s Justice Court. our Ogden Valley Planning Commission adopted, but was amended at the last minute by the Weber County Commissioners. In their amendment, they overrode the new density restriction and allowed for the allocation of “bonus” development units for developers that would be determined by Weber County Commissioners. This is where the GEM Committee stands today. It continues to do its best to keep Ogden Valley residents informed with factual information on issues and meetings that impact Ogden Valley.
