Show 8. II. ROBERTS IS EAGER TO DEBATE B. H, Ro'herts has challenged Senator Sena-tor Smoot to a debate. Mr. Moylo of the Democratic state committee wrote to Mr. Roberts on Tuesday, asking him whether or not he wished to reply re-ply to the Herald Republican editorial and offering him such means at tho command of the state Democratic committee to reply to the statement of the Herald-Republican. Mr. Roberts' Rob-erts' reply was a challenge to Senator Smnot for a series of Joint debates at such places as might be arranged by the Democratic and Republican state committees. Mr Moyle's letter to Mr. Roberts follows-Hon. follows-Hon. B H. Roberts. City. Dear Friend Since the appearance of jour recent letter to me defining your position on the Issues of the campaign, and the reply of the Herald-Republican published on the 21 th of the present month, there has been, considerable Inquiry as to whether or not ou feel disposed to reply to tho editorial. As we have no newspaper, I wish to place at your disposal whatever what-ever opportunity or facilities we can command as a party to place before the public whatever statement jou may care to make. My Dear Moyle Replying to your note of even date will say: I do not care to enter into a controversy with a newspaper on the questions at la-sue la-sue in mv letter to you and the Her-nldjRepubllcan Her-nldjRepubllcan editorial of the 21th instant. But if Senator Reed Sm-.ot will definitely and in toto assume the responsibility for that editorial and adopt it as bis answer to my letter to you, I will and do hf-reby and now challenge him to a series of conjoint debates upon all the Issues of my letter to you and the editorial of the Herald-Republican of the 21th instant, to run from now to the close of the campaign, as y.u may be able to conjointly con-jointly make the arrangements with the chairman of the Republican state committee. If Senator Smoot declines the challenge to debate for any reason, rea-son, but will say that he assumes full responsibility for all the matters of the aforesaid editorial and accepts it as his Hiiswer to my letter to ou, I will tnk- the stump as soon as you can g ' out npMiintinenU for me and will canvass the state as far as possible possi-ble on the Issues presented in the two documents.
