Genet al Pascual Orozco, prominent military leader in Mexico's many revolutions of the last five years, was killed on Tuesday in a fight with a posse of American civilians, civi-lians, customs officers and troops of the Thirteenth I'nited States cavalry, according to government reports received re-ceived here. The battle took place in Green River canyon of the High Lonesome Lone-some mountains in Cuberson county. Texas, following a raid on the Dick Love ranch. Orozco and four companions com-panions were pursued from the Sierra Hlanca country into the foothills. The last of the band died at dusk. How desperately they fought was shown by four bullet wounds in the bodv positively identified, accordins to reports, as that of the former Huer-ta Huer-ta general. v In 1910 Geueral Orozco. then about 35 years old, was the ow ner of a mule pack train which transported ore t'ron the western Chihuahua mines to the railroads. At the outbreak of the Madero rev olution against Diaz he joined Madero and soon became a general, taking part in the capture of Juarez in 1911 President Madero upon the success ol the revolution promoted Orozco to be military governor of Chihuahua. In January, 1912, the garrison o! Juarez revolted under Orozco a; leader. President Madero sent General Vic toriano Huerta to suppress the revo lution. About that time the state de partment enforced an embargo or arms exportation to Mexico and Oro zco fled to the I'nited States. In September of that year, after the ascendancy of Huerta to executive control at Mexico City, Orozco appear ed on the border and aligned himsel! with Huerta. General Huerta and Orozco recent ly were prevented by I'nited States authorities from Invading Mexico at Newman, N. M., escorted to this city and arrested, charged with conspiracy to violate American neutrality. General Orozco furnished bail ir $7,5li0 for hearing at San Antonio, De cember 20. Shortly after he eluded guards placed about his house ant' escaped to Mexico. |
