Show Lions Hear Washington's Birthday Address By Utah State Legislator A detailed explanation of Utah's primary election law; coupled with a description of th': growing power of pressure group-in group-in government was heard b-members b-members of the Mt. Pleasan' Lions club and their wives Wednesday Wed-nesday evening. J. R. Bagnall, president of North Sanpete stake and a mem ber of the 1949 state legislature described present primary law? which he stated were more democratic than the old convention conven-tion system where candidates were nominated and elected from the floor and where it was com paratively common practice tc stampede the delegates with emotional appeals. President Bagnall said the constant efforts of pressure groups at the state and national levels to gain laws advantageous advantag-eous to particular sections of the population are endangering free government. He urged his listeners to elect "Honest, courageous men, be they Democrats or Republicans to office as the only means of defeating the efforts of the pressure groups." Initiation 3remonies were conducted for Mr. and Mrs. Justus Jus-tus Seely, Mr. and Mrs. Arno'd Y. Stevens and Mr. and Mrs Otto Clark. In charge were Dr. Dail P. Averett and Roger Hah-sen. |
