hauled out with a four wheel drive and a chain but he thinks it will be about adequate If I get the vest finished by Saturday I am really going to have to get moving and hope the machine doesn’t made the mistake of telling Lewis the vest was upcoming and now he reminds me daily that duck season opens Saturday and would I add this and change that and sart of their classroom I saw a little girl fall the road I was a couple of down blocks from her and I watched her lay there and cry as I drove the two blocks Durirfg that time many things flashed through by head My first thought was to give aid then thought no if she haKbeen taught and rightly so not to talk to strangers or accept any aid I shouldn’t stop and frighten her Then couldn’t stand to just drive by and leave her crying and bleeding so I stopI ped I was still hesitant in what should do so I talked to her out the car window and then her little friend whom she was meeting started toward us so I told her to go to her friend’s house and have her mother wash her knees But I fumed all the way back to the Chronicle thinking what a rotten world this is getting to be when a person has to think twice about giving aid to a child for fear that being friendly with a stranger may cause the child real grief later on I should have been able to take her home for a bandaid without a cond thought This is NATIONAL NEWSPAPER WEEK so it is a good time for us and readers to reflect on just what a weekWe at ly paper means to a community the paper to reflect on what we have done and do and try to do to meet the needs and desires of readers and raise community awareness of the immediate world around us And a time for readers to assess what the newspaper means in their lives know that they are witnessing the development of living history and not to miss the Monday deadline I have been asked if I wouldn’t like to work for TV or a daily and I can say no No other unhesitantly media offers the opportunity to be so close to ones patrons In a weekly we can share the joy of a new baby the saddness of a death the excitment of a new business the disappointment of a business closing the sweetness of acand the bitterness of complishments I can’t tragedy imagine any real satisfaction for me to hustle and bustle to meet daily deadlines or the five o’clock news and not have the time or to share life with my opportunity
