Show F. L Copening, Early Realtor, Dies in Salt Lake i Frank L. Copening, Sr., 79, 1569 5th East, died Saturday in a Salt Lake hospital of causes incident to age. He will be remembered in Delta Del-ta as one of the early residents of the town and one of the first real estate salesmen operating in this "He was born in Bessville, Mo., June 7, 1869, and came to Utah as a young man and convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints. He was married 55 years ago to Mrs. Belle Taylor Cop- ening, who survives him. Mr. Cop ening worked at Lynndyl as a tle-erapher tle-erapher about 1907, and came to Delta about 1908, and spent several sev-eral years selling land for the Delta Del-ta Land and Water Co. He and Charles McClain, another early realator, used to take a group of prospective buyers on a long loop around the North Tract, making the trip in a white-top buggy, ) drawn by four horses. I During the years the family home was in Delta, the Copenings I lived in the corner house north of the Big Hall, where Arnold Leavitt now lives. At that time there were four children in the family, Mary, ' Ellen, Frank Jr. and Nina. Ellen died in Salt Lake City some years ago. Mrs. Mary Pingree, Los Angeles, Ange-les, Frank L. Copening Jr., Pocatel-lo, Pocatel-lo, Idaho, and Mrs. Nina Coulan, Salt Lake City, and 12 grandchildren grandchild-ren are surviving. One of the grandchildren grand-children is Arnold Ferrin, University of Utah basketball team captain. Mr. Copening and family moved to Salt Lake City about 1915. He was engaged in' gas and oil, and was the founder of Independent Gas and Oil Co. He was active in y church work, and served many ; years in the presidency of Ensign stake. While living in Salt Lake, Mr. Copening made frequent trips i back to Delta, visiting old friends ! and neighbors. |
