Show Ethel tl Juhl, Former Deltan, Dies in Michigan Ethel Nicolson Juhl, 61, wife of James C. Juhl, died Thursday morn itii. Jan. 13, of a heart ailment. Word was received from Mr. Juhl by Delta friends on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Juhl had bought a new home last October, at 14 May-wood May-wood Avenue, Pleasant Ridge, Michigan. When moving in Mrs. Juhl suffered a heart attack and had been confined to her bed since, with absolute quiet. She was born at Marlette, Michigan, Mich-igan, and had lived there the greatest part of her life. She and Mr. Juhl came to Delta in 1923 and made this their home for 22 years. Their farm and ranch, known as the Nicolson Seed farm, was the largest in the area, 2000 acres, with 600 under cultivation. Mr. Juhl was the first local seed crower to raise certified Grimm al-fnlfa al-fnlfa seed. The farm also raised many hundred head of cattle. They j built two modern homes on the farm, one for them and one for tenant's. Their home burned to the ground in a fire last year. ! They sold the property in 1945 to Lincoln Cropper, who runs it now. Then Mr. and Mrs. Juhl spent the following' vears visiting and travelling, first in the eastern j states, and later in the west. They I returned to their home in Michigan Mich-igan last fall, to make their per-(manent per-(manent home. Mrs. Juhl had made a wide circle i of friends in her years of residence here. She was a woman of high j ideals and a wide variety of inter- j ests. She had served many years on Red Cross membership drives , and worked diligently through the ; World War II on bond drives, aid j to veterans, war relief. Her interest in-terest and suoDort went to any project for civic betterment. She was interested in young people, aid had given financial aid to many in their college years. She was a member of the Community Church in Delta, and had been a trustee. Mrs. Juhl had expressed a wish that instead of flowers at her funeral, fun-eral, the money would be used for some charitable purpose. In accordance ac-cordance with that wish, friends here are sending money to Mr. Juhl to be used as she would have wished. The Delta Art Club, of which she was a member many years will give a book to the Delta Library in her memory. |
