Show Duck Presented To Sea Scouts By A. L Post 89 At a beautiful setting on the new site on the reservoir with the moon and stars shining, and with Old Glory flying, the Arthur L. Cahoon Post 89, American Legion, presented present-ed to the Hinckley Sea Scouts, a , duck, which they obtained from the Tooele Ordnance Depot a short while ago. The presentation was made by Commander Oswald Johnson John-son to Skipper Arthur H. Reeve. It was given in the spirit of true Americanism, and was accepted by Skipper Reeve with a declaration to forever teach to those who use it the true spirit of American Citizenship Cit-izenship and to build good manhood man-hood by the activities planned with .the use of the duck by this group Is Christened "Aqua Lee" A popularity contest was held among the boys of the Sea Scout troop to determine the lucky lady to christen the ship. Winner of this honor was Lola Wright, who christened chris-tened the ship "Aqua Lee". The word "Aqua" of course, refers to its use on the water, and the word "Lee" has a double meaning, standing for "Legion" of the Post 89 who presented it, and for "Lee" of the troop name "S. S. Lester Lee". ' After the wine had been broken ' on the hull, Miss Wright boarded ' the ship, where Captain Brown had 1 his crew assembled. With the crew j on board the ship were Commander Johnson, his wife and daughter; Skipper Reeve and his assistant, Wendell Shurtliff, as well as the partners to the Sea Scouts and the Gleaner Girls. With Melvin Hep-worth Hep-worth steering, the boat was launched. A large group attended the presentation pre-sentation and christening of the duck. Earlier in the evening boat riding was enjoyed, then all ate their lunches around a campfire, with punch being served to all by the scout committee. A program was given, with Walter Ekins as master of ceremonies. Everyone was given a ride on the "Aqua Lee" after her initial cruise. |
