It is announced :n press dispatches that Mrs. Victoria Woodhull Martin has been nominated for President ol the United States by the suffragists' The Democrats De-mocrats and. republicans of this country have their recognized national organua-tions, organua-tions, and have nominated respectfully Cleveland and Harrison for the presidency. presi-dency. If a dozen authorized and e responsible re-sponsible persons, calling themselves republican or democrats, should meet and nominate some one else, it would not be proper to sav that the republicans or the democrats had nominatedi so-and-so. The sufiaagists of this country I have their national organizations with about thirty states societies auxiliary to it. They have made no nomination for president of the United States. The alleged al-leged nomination is ,he act of a few wholly irresponsible persons. With the exception ot the Candida' e herself, no one of the women said to have taken part in 1 the so-called convention is knewn to us even by uame. The suffragists suffra-gists of the United States realize that it would be altogether permature for them to set up a candidate for the presidency while women have no votes; and if they were to nominate anybody, it would certainly not be Mrs. Victoria Woodhull Martin, Woman's Journal. |
