Wm. [William] Crockett is agent for Logan. <br><br> MARRIAGES are growing more frequent. The young people of Logan are taking a step in the right direction. <br><br> CALL at J. H. Brown & Son's shop and see the fine piece of lettering in marble recently executed by Harry Brown. <br><br> WE received a pleasant call on Monday from Mr. A. Pratt, proprietor of the Idaho Banner. He reports everything lovely at Oxford. IF grain were only worth three-fourths as much in Logan as it is in Chicago, farmers in this locality would have no cause for complaint. <br><br> THE remains of Chas. [Charles] F. Johnson, who was killed at Sand Holes last May, were brought to Logan a few days since and interred in the cemetery. <br><br> THE foot bridge crossing the Big Ditch on Second street is in a deplorable condition. Somebody will break his leg or neck there-possibly. <br><br> THE new time table of the U. & N. R. R., is published in another column of the Leader. People who travel by rail should make reference to it. <br><br> MEN who are accustomed to getting wood from the canyons now say that such labor is attended by more than the usual dangers and inconveniences. <br><br> "HE is an awful temperate man-you know what I mean, his temper rises and he gets mad dreadful easy" is a speech made recently by a Logan belle. <br><br> THE practice, in which many children indulge of hanging on sleighs and wagons, is a most dangerous one. Drivers should endeavor to prevent such things. <br><br> REAL metropolitan items, as fines, &c., having become so frequent, we believe we are warranted in saying that a police court item may not be an impossibility. <br><br> MANY deaths from diphtheria have recently occurred. People should make sturdy combat against the insidious and powerful destroyer immediately on his first appearance. <br><br> THERE will be a dancing party for the benefit of the First and Fourth Ward Sabbath Schools Friday evening, Dec. 19th, commencing at 7:30 o'clock. Tickets 75 cents. Music by the Wellsville band. ALL the trains on the U. & N. R. R.-both freight and passenger-are now running on time. This was not accomplished without earnest labor and skillful management on the part of the superintendent and train despatcher. <br><br> ON Saturday last James Quayle, Esq., Master Carpenter of the Logan Temple works, cut his right hand very severely with a chisel. The tool penetrated between the first and second fingers, and passed upward toward the wrist, a distance of nearly two inches. <br><br> HOLIDAY GOODS. Just received at Ormsby's Drug Store, a fine selection of Holiday Goods, consisting of Ladies' Toilet Cases, Dressing Sets, Toilet Sets, Pocket Books, and many other articles suitable for Christmas and New Year presents. dec18-lm <br><br> IN a recent number of the Leader, we stated that the Logan Rifle Club medal was made at Salt Lake City. This was according to the statement of our informant, but was entirely incorrect, as the medal was made in this city at the well known jewelry establishment of T. B. Cardon. <br><br> JESSE G. STRATFORD, Esq., ?? agent for the Junction Printing Association of Ogden, is here in the interests of that company. He will visit the settlements in the north, for the purpose of canvassing and collecting; and we commend him to the courtesy of all those with whom he will transact business. <br><br> THE new turn table of the U. & N. R. R. at this place is a model of solidity and neatness; and the round house now in course of construction, though built of wood, will be a credit to the town and to the road. It will be in semi-circular form, and will contain six stalls for engines. All the tracks for the round house, communicate with the main tracks. The carpenter work is being done under the direction of Mr. James Quayle; and the whole labor is under the supervision of Robert Croft, Esq., Master Mechanic of the road. |
