Show FINE PICTURES.

Our ambitious artist, R. Kirkham, Esq, has had for some day's past, two fine pictures on exhibition in the windows of the Pioneer drug store. One is a beautiful canyon scene, taken from nature, to which it is very faithful. The other is a view of Calder's lake, a small body of water just south of Salt Lake City, and is in our judgment one of the very finest pictures Mr. Kirkham has ever painted. It shows the water strewn with autumn leaves, and presents the trees that surround it, in their gorgeous autumn foliage, with a mellow richness of coloring, that, while most true to nature, produces a strong, almost vivid effect. The subject of the picture is a happy one, and most happily has the artist reproduced the scene. Both pictures were encased in elegant frames. |
