Show AS AN evidence of the interest in Utah affairs which is shown by the newspapers throughout the whole country, it is only necessary to observe how large a number of the most influential of them have commented on the recent infamous action of Governor Murray, in giving the certificate of election to a man who received one vote to his opponent's fifteen. In fact this matter has become a leading subject of newspaper comment throughout the whole country, and in its discussion Murray's action is almost universally condemned. Some of the papers rejoice at the prospect of seeing the people of Utah deprived of a representative in Congress, but we have yet to learn of the first one which has attempted to substantiate the legality of Campbell's title to the seat. |
