Show CONVENTION OF DELEGATES.<br><br> A convention of delegates of the Peoples Party of Cache county was held in the City Hall, Logan, July 23d, 1881. Convention called to order by Hon. Wm. B. Preston. On motion C. W. Nibley was elected temporary chairman, and Franklin Merrill was elected temporary secretary. On motion the chairman was authorized to appoint a committee of three to examine credentials of delegates. S. M. Molen, James A. Leishman and Robert Leatham were appointment said committee. Report of committee accepted. The convention then permanently organized by electing C. W. Nibley as chairman. Franklin Merrill as secretary and C. J. Larsen as chaplain. <br><br> On motion the chairman was authorized to appoint a committee of seven to nominate territorial and county officers. G. L. Farrell, C. C. Shaw, G. O. Pitkin, Joseph Kimball, W. L. Poppleton, A. C. Brower and H. Flamm were that committee. <br><br> During the absence of the nominating committee brief but appropriate speeches were made by John Jardine, Alma Harris, the chairman, and Hon. Wm. B. Preston. The committee on nominations then reported for territorial office as follows: <br><br> Councillor to Legislative Assembly, Moses Thatcher.<br><br> Representatives, W. B. Preston and W. H. Lee.<br><br> Commissioners to Locale University Lands, John Van Cott, L. S. Hills and John Rowberry.<br><br> Supt. District Schools, John Taylor.<br><br> Cache County Officers.<br><br> Selectman, C. O. Card. Treasurer, ?? ??. Sheriff, Alvin Crockett. Supt. District Schools, John T. Caine, Jr.<br><br> The convention unanimously sustained Wm. R. Preston as president and C. O. Card as the president of the standing central committee of the People's Party of Cache county. <br><br> On motion the president of the central committee was empowered in nominate the secretary and members; be therefore nominated John T. Caine, Jr., secretary; O. N. Liljenquist, F. Gunnell, G. O. Pitkin, John Jardine and G. L. Farrell. <br><br> The Logan delegates then nominated for precinct officers for Logan the following who were unanimously sustained: James A. Leishman and W. F. Partington for Justices of the Peace; J. H. Bell and James Adams for Constables. <br><br> The chairman offered the courtesies of the convention to Joseph Kimball, delegate from Rich county, who responded in a brief speech; he closed his remarks by recommending to the favor of the convention. W. R. Lee of Rich county, who had been nominated for representative to the Legislative assembly. <br><br> On motion a vote of thanks was tendered the chairman, secretary and chaplain of the convention. <br><br> On motion the proceedings of the convention were ordered to be published in the Logan Leader, Deseret News, Salt Lake Herald, Ogden Herald and Bear Lake Democrat. <br><br> On motion the convention adjourned sine die.<br><br> During the proceedings a spirit of freedom and union was manifested to an extent seldom witnessed on such occasions.
