On Washington's birthday, so Mr. Braugham informs us, the post-office was open from a quarter to eight to half past nine a.m., three quarters of an hour longer than usual on legal holidays. He says it was not closed as long as any person was present for mail. We have always found friend William very willing to oblige and he is not to blame if parties did not get their mail on that day, as the law permits the post-office to be closed on all public holidays. |
