Show j SUSC hires new faculty members I CEDAR CITY - Six ? new faculty members at i Southern Utah State j College have assumed a variety - of teaching - mm responsibilites. i Ronald Aden v specializes in music, Douglas H. Baker in v theater, June Marie 1 Canty in education, John ; C. Debross in forensics, j Dniel B. Matlock in ' biology and Coralie O. Rawlinson in business. Aden's position at SUSC includes responsibility respon-sibility for a capella choir, chamber chorale, vocal jazz, private voice and music appreciation. His areas of 'specialization are choral conducting and voice instruction. The new assistant professor of music has replaced Ellison Glattly. Aden recieved his masters degree from the University of Northern Colorado and is presently a doctoral candidate with the University of Washington. Baker joins the SUSC faculty in a new position, assistant professor of theater. Increased enrollment at SUSC and continued intererst in the theater department placed added demand for voice technique, acting, and ensemble playing. These duties as well as senior thesis and touring projects will be the focus of Baker's position. In the education department, Dr. Canty has a accepted reesponsiblity for a variety of teacher education courses. Canty's qualifications include a doctoral degree from the University of Washington, a masters degree form Wayne State University and a bachelors degree from Oakland University. Canty was the winner of the Annual Dissertation Competition at the University of Washington as well as many other academic honors. Her teaching experience ex-perience includes a position with the University of Washington grants and contracts from the national Science Foundation, United States Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Navy have involved- the SUSC faculty member in extensive research. His most recent assignment was on the faculty of the University of Guam. Matlock is an associate professor of biology at SUSC. In the area of business education, Rawlinson is a replacement for Barbara Tolleson, and teaches classes in shorthand, typewriting, secretarial specilization, office simulation, business machines math, record management and business English. Rawlinson was recognized as the 1974 Outstnding Young Woman of American by the Young Women of America Organization. She graduated from SUSC with high honors and continued her education at Utah State University where she earned a masters of education degree. and the public school system in Troy, Mich. Dr. Canty is a replacement for Phillip C. Carter, now assistant president lor academic programs at SUSC. As assistant director of forensics, John C. DeBross has joined SUSC's forensic program. DeBross was director of forensics at the University of Southern California from 1964 to 1981. His forensic honors include being named coach of the year at Georgetown University, Univer-sity, coach of the decade at the U.S. Air Force Academy, coach of the year at the University of Arizona and outstanding coach at the University of Utah. With a masters degree in speech communication from Emporia State University, DeBross is working with the SUSC forensics program and teaching communications com-munications classes. Matlock is a replacement for emeriti Wesley P. Larsen. Dr. Matlock's areas of specilization include cellular and molecular biology. Numerous |
