The members of the Cork Young Ireland Ire-land society have received $30 toward a national monument to be placed in the grand parade. Meetings of the Gaelic League were held in Castlegregory, Clahanode and Candthy. There were representatives from all parts of the parish. Derry. The dreaded potato blight has made Its appearance at several places in the neighborhood of Garvagh. The blight Is due to the almost continual wet weather of the last fortnight in June. All crops present a highly favorabla appearance at present flax being particularly par-ticularly good. The high sheriff of Derry City lately presented white gloves to the judge, as there was no criminal case to be tried, . Donegal. Mr. Lawrence Gillespie, wine merchant mer-chant Bridge street Donegal, recently received .the ad news that his son I Charles, 20 years old, met with a shock-i shock-i ing death in Manchester, England. The members of the County Down i council have elected Charles Adamson I rate collector for the Donaghmore and ! Oully districts, in room of William J. Stokes, resigned. James Martin was appointed inspector under the diseases of animals act in Newry rural county district in place of J. C. Heather, resigned. re-signed. The dock laborers in Newry have struck for an increase of wages at the rate of 0 cents per ton. Dnblln. The Irish class in the St Columba branch of the Gaelic League, Dublin, which commenced with 28 pupils five cr six weeks ago, now has SO. Following the example set by Lough-rea Lough-rea the town commissioners of Tuam have decided to have the names of the streets of the town inscribed in Irish characters. Active steps are being taken by J. O'Loughliu of Loughrea to secure the release of the Craughwell prisoners. Constable Mullowney and Patrick Fin-negan, Fin-negan, sentenced 17 years ago for alleged al-leged complicity In the murder of a laud grabber. Michael Daly, aged 23 years, of LIm- erick city, while riding a bicycle from Castleconnel homeward recently, was ! knocked down by a car and fatally in- jured. j A young woman named Anne linn- ! ley, daughter of a farmer, was driv- i ing a donkey and car. with a churn of I milk, over the" railroad line at a private pri-vate farm crossing, about a mile from Limerick Junction recently, when she , was killed by the Kiliarney express. ! At a meeting of the Nationalists in Edgeworthstown and adjacent districts, dis-tricts, recently held, the action of those who attended the great Irish convention, conven-tion, Dublin, June ID, was indorsed. Louth. Rev. J. L. Magee, formerly of St. Mary's Ma-ry's parish, Drogheda, is now in the parish of Bohermeen. The inaj'or and members of the corporation cor-poration of Drogheda attended in state at the opening of the Cathedral bazaar at Armagh. John McSherry has been appointed town clerk of Dundalk. Mayo. At Ballinrobe petty sessions Mr. Pe- i ter F. Regan, James Ilynes, Michael, J Gibbons and Patrick Gannon, all of Ballinrobe, were held without bail for the assizes. They are charged with unlawful un-lawful assemblage. Menth. Miss Charlotte Strahan of Navan, a nurse attached to the City of Dublin Nursing institution, has gone to South Africa to minister to wounded and sick I soldiers. j Monaghan. But two cases, and these of not a I very serious nature, came before Chief Baron Palius at the Monaghan assizes held recently. A large and representative meeting of the Nationalists of Aughnamullen j East was held recently for the purpose of organizing the townland in the interests in-terests of the United Irish League. Qneen's. In a few years more, with the help of the United Irish League warfare, the farmers will be able to purchase their holdings for nine or ten years' rental. It was the Land League that brought down the old rents. The new Land League can do as good business as the old did. Conditions in Ireland have not changed much. Philip Magee, station master at Dun-gaunon. Dun-gaunon. was recently the recipient of i an address and presentation from the people of Castleblayney on the occa- I sion of his leaving to take up his du- ties at Dungannon. Mr. P. Smyth pre- sided on the occasion. This is the third ' time that Mr. Magee was complimented j in this way since he became a station master under the Great Northern Railway Rail-way company. .tVnterford. At the Waterford city police court a young man named Patrick Murphy was charged with being a deserter from the Waterford militia, at present stationed in Plymouth, England The prisoner was ill and was remanded. There was only one case for trial at I the summer assizes of the county. Weatmeath. The Rev. J. O'Connell, who has been transferred from the curacy of the united parishes of Ballinacargy and Sonna to the more important parish of Clonmellon. was on the occasion of his departure made the recipient of a presentation pres-entation by bis parishioners.
