Show PLAN; A NEGRO PARTY. Members of Race Would Nominate National Ticket. Philadelphia, June 6. The first steps looking" to the organization of a national nation-al negro party have been taken in this city. Prominent negroes bishops, ministers, editors and lawyers at a meeting decided to place a presidential ticket in the field with negro candidates. candi-dates. The plan is to organize the party in every state in the union and nominate nomi-nate candidates for state and congressional congres-sional offices. Bishop Levy H. Capin, the newly-elected newly-elected head of the A. M. E. church in this district, presided at the meeting. The names mentioned for president were ex-Judge E. J. W'alker of Boston, with P. D. S. Pinchback, ex-lieutenant governor of Louisiana, as vice-president; Bishop W. B. Derrick of 'New-York 'New-York with Professor de Boise as vice-president; vice-president; Bishop Grant of Illinois with the Rev. Dr. J. P. Campson as vice-president; Bishop H. M. Turner with Booker T. Washington of Alabama Ala-bama as vice-president, and Bishop Wallers with T. T. Allain of Louisiana as vice-;resident. |
