Show T. KEARNS AND CELTIC ART. (Soecial to the Herald.) Paris, Aug. 2. United States Senator Thomas Kearns of Utah has scoured Brittany and Ireland, for objects of ancient Celtic art with which to adorn his new mansion at Salt Lake City. Kearns, it is said, declares that he will spend $2,000,000 in procuring the most antique furniture. Irish bog oak is his particular fancy. He has bought $200,000 worth of mahogany tables, chairs and sideboards in the vicinity of Tara, the home of his ancestors. Senator Kearns is influenced in this action by the consideration that he will entertain President Roosevelt at his home in Utah when the President makes his Western tour. We like that. We like to see a wealthy raa.i spend his money in a way to help the poor and t serve as Instructive to the rich. But why not bu the harp of Tara, the original harp, restring it an i give the President a real surprise? That, to , would be a reminder to both the President and th. Senator that the reason the harp come originallv to be neglected was because the four kings were i little like Teddy and Tom they all wanted to b bosses, and held to that desire until the liberties of their country were lost. |
